With 2 cycle oil the main thing is don't use oil for air-cooled engines in water-cooled engines and vice-versa.
One of the main points is the working temp of the oil ... and second environmental ...
TA can be used in Water cooled - but its not advised. TW is the spec.
Using TW in an air cooled though is the worst of the wrong use ... as TW is not designed to handle the higher temp.
But for many years now - there is available general purpose 2T .... which runs fine in both. I have had a Dealer try refuse a warranty after he found out I was using General Purpose 2T in a strimmer that failed - NOT due to oil ... Boy did he get his ears chewed out !!
So :
If you are concerned about 2T use - then TW for water cooled, TA for Air cooled. Don't forget that Yamaha produced a 5hp Air Cooled outboard for many years - and a very good OB it was ..
If you are a not concerned ... as me - then General Purpose is fine.
