No cruising chute, spinny or folding prop? ;->
Cruising chute yes, not the other two.
Just had the pole we bought last Spring mast mounted- flew the chute a few times, poled out the big genoa and yankee down wind from Guernsey to Paimpol, but i'm not 25 any more, find myself less than lithe swinging the pole up from deck level and pushing it out nowadays.SWMBO too tiny to handle it, too. Not the foredeckie I was even 10 year ago, only got the boots and sunnies now, not the twitch muscle I had:(

Saved some pounds and had the mast track extended to have the pole stowed vertical in Nov. Hoping to have more light airs speed in 2012:D
Mind the reviews when the 115 came out called it a 'motorsailor', and our youngest calls it our Zimmerframe!

If you can lift the pole - then you can pole out the genoa. No strength required. Put a spare sheet on the genoa while its on the other side (or roll it in?). Set up pole - up haul downhaul and an aft guy so its firmly triangulated in position (remember to put the spare sheet through the jaws before you put it up!) Stroll back to cockpit and pull genoa out on the new side at your leisure...) With respect, you really shouldn't be putting the sheet through the jaws of a sail that's got wind in it and dancing round the foredeck.

I can pole out the genoa single handed on a fifty or sixty foot boat. - the only problem is the pole gets a bit big to lift when the boat gets really big!

If your pole is on the mast all the time, then it should be really easy. Even if the pole is a bit heavy, use a winch on the up haul and down haul if necessary...

Currently reduced to two; a 15Kg R***a bower, plus 15Kg CQR as a spare. That's because the boat is currently using the big CQR and the kedge as a semi permanent mooring. When we have switched to a pair of concrete blocks for the mooring we will have 4 anchors and precisely shed loads of warp and chain on board.

I used to carry a fortress as a useful kedge but also light enough to carry in the dinghy which can sometimes save embarrassment in a strong tide. It somehow got lost between houses and boats.

We have 3 - as do most liveaboards around here - except the ones who have 4!
Met a Frenchman in Greece last year whose engine failed and he was embayed in a storm. Lost all 3 anchors and ended up on the beach. Managed to refloat a few days later with the aid of a JCB. Needed a rudder repair but amazingly little damage.

Uphaul/downhaul, spare sheet, aft guy fitting- ah, they were on the cruise 'to do' list when we got to Paimpol. Then the wind went aft and down a bit to' slat/slat' mode. Now the pole+ uphaul/downhaul is on the mast, twill be much easier.

Couldn't agree more, I'm older and wiser, but when i were younger, on other peoples boats/racing in Sunsail 37's, i found myself doing that several times, but that is why i was there- old prop forwards never retire, they just move offshore:D

After all, the change from hoisting 17stone of loose head up in the air in a scrum(those were the days:)) to wrestling an armed pole outboard is very small- and about as likely to reduce your smile to a show of gums/ dose of concussion:D

Trouble is, bad habits persist, but twitch muscle doesn't:(

I'm not the only one then

Five is fine :)

I feel inadequate with only three, two on the boat. I'm more intrigued by how many of us feel the need for an anchor for the shed. Which do reckon is the best type for that? My Bruce has never dragged all the time I've had it in the shed.

So do we. I think the number carried depends on what conditions you expect when you sail and anchor. If light to moderate one will do (say weekends), up to Force 6 two (say two weeks away, can't trust the forecast), above that three or four (long distance will get all conditions).
