2hp outboard not peeing.

So, slightly put off by the threats of sheared bolts I havent removed the head but I have taken the leg off as per alahol's pdf. There's a thin layer of brown scum in the channels but nothing major. I blew water down the 'out' hole and it came up both the 'in' holes so no sign of a blockage.

Reassembled and run but still no pee. On closer inspection the peehole does just go to the inside of the leg so maybe it is just an exhaust as previously mentioned. In any case, the only thing coming out of it is air.

Maybe this is how its supposed to be and i've already fixed the blockage. will give it a proper try at first opportunity.

You have not told us any model details.

What is the serial number ? / what year ?

If we know that we can look up drawings or the owners manual of the engine to see just what is what.

It sounds as though you are mistaking the exahust relief port on the back of the leg for a peehole. Your model may not have a peehole . Does the owners manual mention a telltale?

Is there exhaust gas coming out from there? if so it is just an exhaust relief port

You should see just a few droplets of water or maybe a mist being blown out with the exhaust gases. You can see that in the Video... that engine does not appear to pee from a telltale

Yes that engines same as mine 6 holes in leg should have lots of water coming out
i have now i cleared the head
i waisted time with the impeller it was perfect
here you are yours will probably be like this inside

Like others I was amazed to find the amount of salt cake and muck bolcking the channels. I had the same symptoms as you and stripping/cleaning out worked well. Could not re use the gasket though - it stuck to both sides of the flange faces

Its a Mariner 2. serial is 6a1-089597, 1985 i've been told.

Its second hand with no manuals so i'm flying blind with it. It has since occured to me that the amount of water coming out of the exhaust must also be related to the angle that the engine is sitting at (i.e. if its tilted too much the water will be running down the opposite side of the leg that the holes are at).

Can anybody confirm that the Mariner's head is a similar design to Niander's picy? (thanks for that btw) That pic does seem to show that its possible to have water flow through the head whilst still being too gunked up to be of any effect. It does seem highly likely that is my problem. I'll attempt the head bolts later.

Ok. I got the head off. Was no problems at all and as promised total operation took less than an hour.

However, my head is not blocked. I've attached a pic of what I found and it looks fine. The other plate had some chalky deposits on it so I scraped that clean. I also exposed the plate in the pdf mentioned earlier so I could also check the water channels. The water input goes directly to the head so thats not a problem but I couldnt trace where the output comes from so there could be some hidden blockage there. Still, I blew some water and vinegar down the output and it easily flowed out of the open head so I don't think theres a problem there any more.

I suspect the output channel was blocked but I've already cleared it without realising.

Vic thanks for the manual link. Interestingly, it does say that water should be coming out of the exhaust but i'm not convinced. Will see what happens next time I use it.

When my pee hole blocks, I just stick a bit of flexible wire up my pee hole  and....voila plenty of water issues forth - usually just a bit of dried salt in the system.

Ah but that's a telltale. The engine in question does not have telltale.

The telltale just indicates that the pump is pumping. It does not usually form any essential part of the cooling circuit so no harm will come from it being blocked.
