290 leg wiring

Afternoon All

Just a couple of queries for the wiring on a Volvo Penta 250, 290 leg with Aq151 engine. I've got the wiring diagrams, but not too sure.

I've just fitted a new (second hand) hydraulic pump to my 290 leg but has a different loom to the old one, I've managed sort out most of the wires but have a couple I'm not sure about.

The first one is a 3 way plug, red, black and red/blue, the red and black are from the engine (55 amp and -ve) any ideas where the red/blue one goes ?

One the main loom for the AQ151 - any ideas for the connections on the RPM guage. Also I have the red / black cables in the loom, looks like a 2.5mm2 cable, any ideas where they go ?

I will attempt to help you but first of all I have some questions for you.
First of all the red cable you mention on a 290 outdrive does not go direct to 12v. That cable is from the starter motor and goes to the up and down relays.
Next, I do not know of 3 cable pumps for the 290 leg, I'm not saying there isn't one but the ones I know have 2 cables, these are green/white and blue/white. The pump only needs 2 cables as the voltage is reversed by the relays already mentioned - OK
As far as I know it is the SX + DP-S leg that has 3 cables going to a connector but not in the colours you mention, it also has 2 other cables that supply the power to the pump itself, these also go to another connector. Is this what you have?
Regarding the engine wiring question, are you connecting to what I call a standard VP instrument panel? If so and I only have the wiring for a AQ140 the signal to the RPM gauge is from pin 1 on the gauge via pin 8 on the junction box to 1 on the coil.
When you mention red/black is that 1 or 2 cables? Once again on the 140 there are no red/black cables but red or black and the only red one of 2.5mm goes from the starter solenoid to the ignition switch.
Sorry to be asking you so many questions when you were hoping for some answers but you never know something may have come out of it.

The loom I have for the 290 leg requires a feed from the starter motor and -ve on the engine block connecting which I have got going to the loom via a 3 pin plug. The additional cable (red / blue) is in the plug but I'm not sure what needs to be connected to this. The green/white and blue/white on the pump are connected to the loom via the 2 pin plug OK.

What 3 colour cables have you got connected ?

The 2 cables (red and black @ 2.5mm2) are just terminated with a connector block so I'm assuming they may be an added extra, there is a 2.5mm2 red cable going to the ignition switch and the ignition all works fine.

Its a Volvo Penta Tilt Trim Motor Oildyne Pump 854346, if thats any help. I'm going to get the cable tester on the cables this afternoon if I get chance and track them back.

Managed to track the cable back, its running from the 10 amp fuse and going to the 3 pin plug with the, I must appolgise now as I got the colours wrong, blue and green cables.

I can get the pump to work with the green wire which does not go through the relay on the dash, put a new relay in and heard a clicking so I'm going to replace the connectors at the relay on the dash to see if thats the fault.
