280 leg exhaust

Having started my boat up this afternoon on the trailer I noticed exhaust coming out of the top of the leg housing - on closer inspection it looks like a small pipe connects from the Exhaust manifold into the top of the leg sheild area. Does anyone know what this is ???

Where can I get hold of a 280 leg manual or drawings of it ????

Hi Adrian, on my two 280s they had tell tales so you can see if water is pumping.
