2007 Mercruiser 5.0 TKS Manifold Elbow Core Plug

You’ll need to get another one and bond it in usually. But I’d think you might need to also check that there isn’t other bits leaking or cracked too…if it was from frost damage. If not…ignore me.

Thanks, getting into this a little deeper now... learning lots!! So they are expansion plugs that plug up holes that otherwise might have been used if it was reversed? I gather they are expansion plugs if some sort but can't seem to find any part numbers other than the usual freeze plug kits that are available for the engine block. Did find threaded ones but they're not right.

There's about 3 years on the existing manifold and elbow with the boat being in dry storage in Spain. So freezing probably wasn't an issue.

You can clearly see the state of mine. That plug at the bottom of the elbow case is leaking. I'll probably replace the entire manifold / Elbow with a kit over winter but I'll try to patch this up to get me through the next 2 months. Temperatures on both seem OK and mechanic thinks it should be fine.

Rather replace with proper plugs than a temp screw fix if i can find them.

Its a standard core plug same as used in the engine block, just find the right size and drill a hole in the old one and lever it out. Clean thoroughly and hammer in the new one with some sealer around it, there is no high pressure in the cooling passage on the riser to worry about.

Another one went the other day on the other side of the same riser elbow. Think it's time to replace manifold's and elbows.

Could anyone suggest a good place for these parts in EU? As I'm in Spain the closer the better. I gather there are kits that include everything. Mechanic says about €1500 for parts from him so if I could do better that would be great. But only substantially better, not going to bother to save €100-150 on it :-)
