No, it is not permitted, but we can only act on reported instances with evidence.
It is exceptionally difficult to REALLY hide if someone looks hard enough without going to extremes to be hidden (like proxy servers). Two logins from same IP address in 24hrs... probably enough to warrant a closer look. Every device on the internet has a unique fingerprint - more unique than the IP address - it can be stored as a hash of the operating system, browser, cpu, MAC address etc. There will however be a small number of cases where this is legitimate - Solent Clown and his better half have two separate accounts - no idea how they login.
I've seen on other forums - up to 3 or 4 people who I think were the same person or best buddies. All egging each other on, when bashing someone else. if 3 or 4 people all agree it starts to make you doubt. Why does it matter to you?
Whilst not pointing the finger, why not report those you think are multiples to the mods... then they can investigate your concerns and do something about it.
If you have reserve accounts - if you get banned you just flip account.
Ban proofing.Does not bother me one iota, curiosity as to why or what would be achieved.
Using real names would stop it, if it is indeed a thing, but more pertinently, people may think before typing first if what they say can be attributed.
Oh sorry - off to change my name to John Smith.
In all seriousness - there are numerous reasons why I don't post under a 'real name'. Even down to the fact that I am 100% unique in the world and if I post "I'm off sailing this weekend" that means my house is empty. I quite like coming back and finding its not been robbed... Post real details and people will contact you via other means either to take objection to a post or just as if you can elaborate more on that post from 2006 where you were going to try using an elastic band instead of a gromit because they want to do the same thing. If that means they hunt me down at work I will be might annoyed. You may scoff - people hunt me down at work for all sorts (not [yet] related to the forum).
