Afternoon all, same motor as before but it stoped pumping water, so I changed the impeller again to a quicksilver one ( Not an after market one ) now it won't pump water at all, I have tried blowing down from the top and to my suppries I could not feel any pressure down the lift pipe but the air seems to be coming out from just under the motor somewhere. Any ideas please. Ps, I know the impeller is working as there is water comig from bottom part of the leg.

I have the 20 which is pretty well same engine ...

Cooling water should exit under the engine at back on the side that has gear lever ... it should be a reasonable thin stream ... similar to taking a p**s ...

There is a tiny hole in that rear corner .... if you have air coming out when you blow ... then it sounds clear ...

Years ago - I had a Johnson that all was clear and did as you describe ... problem was water channel in the leg joint had crumbled and water was not getting up to engine - it was literally just filling up the leg itself ... so when lifted out of water ... water ran out as you decsribe.

I had a 16hp suzuki with a similar problem

The tube from the top of the pump was not fitted correctly into the hole in the underside of the engine casting.

I also found a corroded hole in the underside of the engine casting that bypassed the cooling chamber and allowed the cooling water to exit down the gear change linkage and not down the exhaust outlet .

This caused lack of cooling and no water coming out of the tel tail
