14 boats to see at SIBS

Graham. We are on IE8 at work and your web site doesn't work very well in it.
The 14 boats get squashed to the left 50% of the width and are scrollable whilst the right hand 50% is static with an image of a motor boat.

That Allures 39.9 looks very attractive, unusually so for a new boat today. The pic doesn't look much like other Allures photos on the net though - quite different coachroof.

It looks like it's well past time you upgraded your browser then! :-)
From my day-job's web logs, we reckon there are less than 10% of users still using IE6/7/8.
YBW folks are welcome to comment with their own reckoning.

IE is becoming a minority platform, the world has moved on, web developers increasingly develop firstly for Chrome, Safari and Firefox. If they have spare time, they might be bothered enough to help people stuck on old IE versions, but don't hold your breath.

Edit: My apologies if you have a prehistoric IT Department (or a locked-down desktop) and can't upgrade your own browser.

...but...even on Chrome, Snooks's screen is divided between a static picture of the stern of a motoryacht, while the relevant text is squeezed into a narrow column.

I can't believe it's meant to look that way?

I've got IntEx 10 as well, and it's the same story there.

I like the comment about AWBs resembling dull cars...but I'm not sure the builders of the Bestewind will thank you for saying she has a "lovey" feel. One for Ken Branagh perhaps?

As a matter of interest is "She also has two tons of lead in her keel!" supposed to be a surprisingly high amount or a surprisingly low amount? Since my 26-footer has 1 1/2 tons of lead in her keel, 2 tons doesn't seem very much for a 35 footer.

It's a lot. For comparison the First 35 has 1.6 tonnes. And that is a very stiff boat.

We were parked next to that very boat in Cherbourg in July. Interesting naming scheme. It was quite obviously bigger than our 40.5' "41". Specs say it's 12.65m (or a barleycorn over 41.5 feet in old money). Could be a very cost effective name.

Two tons of lead in my 34' Arcona - actually a small portion of it is antimony.

Narrower boat - same reason JD's boat has proportionally more lead. GT has a lower ballast ratio at it's 7 tonnes overall compared to the First's 5.5. Have to figure enough of that extra weight is below the CofG to make the GT at least as stiff, especially when you figure the waterline beam will be a lot more than your Arcona, or the First.

Better comparison would be the Oceanis 35. Which has only 1.5 tonnes in the keel, and is even wider.

Offered the choice, I'd take the Arcona...

Nice post with food for thought sio keep on doing it.

However, I think for someone who sails a Sadler 32 ( lovely boat by the way) to describe the Mystery 35 as compact is, at best, a little unkind.
What it is, is a traditional British layout aimed at people who don't hop from marina to marina and for whom a double aft cabin is less useful than sea berths.
