12v Cable frugality

I have this suspicion you never got over my disagreement with you.
You are also mistaken Jonathan. People disagree on here all of the time, i don't hold a grudge, don't even recall what you disagreed about. I still took the time to post about some of my experiences with solid core cable, unfortunately you twisted that too.

Jonathan sold his catamaran many months ago, which is no doubt explains why the "test" is conducted on a house roof.

If this "test" appears in yachting magazine I hope, unlike this forum thread, it will be made clear to the readers that the panel has not been tested in a marine environment. Without the salt spray and constant movement and vibration the durability of the panel especially a portable foldable panel may well be different and with the inevitable shadowing from the mast and rigging the output will not match the results on a house roof.

You are mistaken Roger. I have seen, over the years, many pictures of things you have designed and made for your boat and have no doubt you have many skills.

Where i disagree with you is when you try and re-invent the wheel, seemingly just for the sake of it, and come up with something less than round.

It is true, there is often more than one way to do something, but sometimes there is only one correct way.

Paul what you must understand that reinventing whe wheel can some times end up with a better wheel. If Mr Dunlop had not invented a way to join runner and canvas together there would be no pneumatic tyres and we would al be bumpint around and steel rimed wooden wheels.

The sam with Mr Benz and the motor car and if Mr Whittle has not invented the jet engine we would still have piston engined aircraft with propellers.

I do not come up with designs just for the sake of it I do it to try to come up with a better solation and if they don't fit what you consider is the right way hat your issue not mine.

Through my long Engineering Design career I have challenged convention some times they work some times they don't. It is the nature os Engineering Design throughout the ages

Thinking outside the box can come up with some real gems but sometimes they do not always succeed like the Wankel engine a great idea but do have some issues in the detailed Engineering.

You could say that fusion reactors are a non starter but if it can be made to work a great future for man and woman kind

Don't knock reinventing the wheel we now have alloy wheels rather than wooden wheels. We may even have vehicles without wheels some day like the hovercraft.

There is more than one way for design equipment but who is to say that there is only one correct way and what is the correct way.

Yo think that seperate battery switches for domestic and engine batteries with an emergency connect switch but if you have more than 1 domestic battery bank or a seperate bow thruster battery seperate battery batteries become cumber sum and take up lots of real estate on the electrical panels.

A single solation does not always fit all circumstances
