I have bought a yacht with a Jotron Tron 1E 121.5Mhz EPIRB but will purchase a new Jotron 406Mhz . Question: Is it worth £55 to pay for a new lithium battery pack for the old one as well?

Most 406 EPIRBs lso transmit on 121.5MHz.

The necessity is due to the fact that many national SAR services only have 121.5 locating devices on their search boats.

I would check if your new Jotusn has tghe dual calling facility - if it hasn't swap it for a Mc Murdo or rebattery the old Jotun.

I know Jotun were way down my purchase list when I bought my EPIRB 4 years ago, because of this lack of the 2nd frequency - I bought in the States 2 months before McMurdo launched what is probably the best EPIRB on the market.
I was under the impression that they'd included dual frequency in their latest model.

Thanks to all who posted an answer to my requests (I somehow posted twice - sorry). In the end I bought a McMurdo Fastfind from my local chandler and incidently got an excellent deal. It has dual frequency 406 and 121.5 so I gave my old EPIRB and a SARBE to the Belfast MRCC who were pleased to add them to their collection of safety equipment.
