12 volt tv

Does anyone run one of these on the boat ... if so what do you need to make it go? I've got a cig socket I can use but do you need some sort of regulator between the plug and the tv ... at home I use it with an ac/dc convertor off the mains but what do I need for the boat please?

You don't need anything but the lead.

Just about every LCD 19/20 inch TV is 12 volt. Just connect up with a fuse for safety either to the socket or direct to the battery.

If you are using a LCD and running it of the batteriesi am afraid you will need a voltage stabliser as an LCD will only be happy with a true 12V
However, some and it seems more and more of the newer LCD's come with a built in stabliser, try it and see. If the screen goes black then you need a stabiliser, i use on of these

and have had not problems. I have fitted at 6 TV's to other boats, 4 needed a stabliser and 2 did'nt. It's a bit of suck it and see i am afraid

Not on the boat but in the camper. As has been said, it's a new TV that is designed for 12 volt operation. Just plug it in and go, except that cigar lighter plugs are rubbish and the TV goes off every time somebody moves. I have now wired mine direct to a switch.

Thanks Shaung ... have ordered one from Amperor ... just what I was looking for and I can use it in the caravan as well.
TV is 60 watt ... any info on battery drain ?

If TV is 60w then it will pull 5A. (60/12=5)

We have a 22" LCD TV with DVD built in that plugs straight in to a cigarette socket and works really well. Its made by that famous make DMTECH ???? The only draw back is that the speakers are poor so we now play it through the boat stereo system using an IPod socket on the radio.

Mine's a Kenmark ... another one I've never heard of ... Amperor had it listed though and told me which type gizmo was required so Kenmark must have made more than the one I've got! ... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

P.S .... so presumably 5 amps from a 110 ah battery won't be a problem?

Sorry to but in what about needing one for running the TV on 24V?

I have been using an LCD tv on board for 3 years, which has a 240 volts transformer converting to 12 volts, coupled with a Sagem Freeview controller which also has a 12 volt input having a 240 volt transformer.
I have only had one problem which was last year when the sound stopped working. Extensive diagnosis finally found the fault - the 12 volt fridge was taking too much power from the battery bank and it was below 12 volts - solution switch off the fridge for an hours or so!

Likewise S. I bought one of these regulator/stabilisers from Amperor for my Mikomi LCD with the 4 pin connection and it arrived within two days - Top Service /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've got a 19" DMTech TV/DVD and an Amperor device - it works really well. In addition if the TV is rated at say 60W then it will draw significantly less than the expected 5A as the regulator does not waste any power. Just feel how warm the power supply (that was supplied with the TV) gets - all this is wasted power and will no longer be wasted by the regulator.
