Do you (OP) mean by "adaptor" the correct plug or do you mean a power converter type device?

If the data on the TV indicates that the TV is suitable for caravans vehicles etc then all you need do is connect to the ships system. If you can't find the correct plug then cut the wires and attach a plug and socket or wire in permanently.
If however you only know it runs on 12v because the power pack says 12v o/p then it may be more difficult. These 12v power pack (transformer though usually not actually just a transformer if it is a switch mode type) give a very precise 12v. Your ships system on the other hand can deliver anywhere between 11.5 volts and 14.5 volts. Your TV may smoke with 14.5volts going in when it expects 12v.

You would probably be fairly safe to run it on a 12v battery provided it was not being charged by engine or shore power (or anything else)

If this is a concern the real answer is one of these computer type power converters that take in 12v and deliver a range of voltages from 9 up to 18v at of course the required 5 amps rating. This will give the desired 12v precisely as required. good luck olewill

You need an Amperor 12v stabiliser. They have a store on eBay and you should be able to get one for about £40. There have been threads on this device on the forum so you can do a search for more info.

If you are running a 12v LCD TV without one of these then think again.

I bought a small 300w inverter from Maplins, which I use for a number of things - Cordless drill, 2000 zillion candle power lamp, mobile phone, and tele, and hand held VHF. and of course a TV with DVD player etc. This does add up to at least 5 amps and the 12 volt converter I bought, kept causing the telly to trip out.

Do check that if the wiring runs any distance that you have heavy wiring, otherwise you will be surprised at the voltage drop, which would cause the telly to trip.

Do think about the ariel. I bought a directional one, and it is most unsatisfactory. I could not pick up any digital signal in Bembridge, but then did manage at Newtown - whilst I was actually looking at thetransimtter.....
