...I almost forgot what sort of quality and variety of fish a good Venice lagoon restaurant has to offer.
But tonight I had a sort of trip back in time, and all I can say is that for fish lovers a trip down here would be worth for food alone - as if visiting Venice, unique as it is, wouldn't be a good enough reason.
Not that I'm not used to decent fish, btw: Deleted User can say what he wants, but there's much more than just tuna in CF, and the quality of the local catches down there is also outstanding.
But for a memorable fish dinner, the N Adriatic is quite simply the best place in the world, period.

Anyway, the reason why I'm posting this here rather than in discusscooking forum is that I thought to confirm to those of you who are already aware of the reason why I am here that the seatrial went very well! :encouragement:
More to follow asap - time being, 'scuse me for not having enough time to give a proper update in real time, but I still have a few i's to dot and t's to cross...

You're properly in the swing of how things work here now M, a few teasers, one or two facts and then zilch.

So I surmise that you're currently having a superyacht built somewhere in Northern Europe that will be ready for its maiden voyage next week. You'll be looking to take this mighty fine 150m vessel through the French canals, with a small diversion to Gibraltar to fill up with several million liters of cheap diesel. Somewhere along the way you will be picking up your 5m tender, uniquely designed to allow you to speed along at 74kts for a month without refueling. Along the way you'll be picking up several thousand Brits who will need to leave Europe pretty smartish after some Tory party minor internal squabbles. Your supertanker, sorry, yacht, will have room for several trillion Euros to be stuffed into every available space, along with anti aircraft missiles

good!

how about giving some clues, brand is a single word or two fe?
number in ft or m?
is there a model name and if so how many sylables?

simple things that PYB would help us decipher :p

looking forward to the news and pics (no custard needed btw...)

cheers

I suspect there's a d and a p in it, and if there is also a 5 and a 6, and it's the one I think it might be, then it looks like it might be a bit of a steal, so hope it works out ok. Hopefully, my turn next.

the ones that I found that match look more like 56m not feet!
If it's of the famous NW awful looking city with a shitload of tourists, it must be good!

cheers

Pleased sea T went well --

All in due time --guys

Ohh, that sounds very promising! I am really looking forward reading the full report with lots of pics, can't wait!

Looks also like we'll soon get a cruise report Adriatic->CF!

nah, I hate that stuff, raki's fine though :D

V.

PS. that means the name has three words then? 8 2 and 4 chars long by any chance?

Nah, not even close, however I was already concerned that I might have given too much away already, and I think it only fair that MapisM has the final say.
Maybe open another bottle of raki while you're waiting?:cool:

... the seatrial went very well!

many congratulations !
I asume this sea trial was mainly about the engines and prop system ?

the last ... year you have done so much investigation on MAN engines and prop systems, that by now you must know every spec and every nut and bolt in it ;)
so yes, it must be a exceptionally good installation if this boat endured your tests,
ones again many congrats :encouragement:

can you come over for re-adjusting my Man / Bosch injection pump :D

Oi LJS, how did you understand that I was posting also with another username lately?
Don't mention it in the other thread, 'cause all those forumites hoping to join a nice cruise from the UK to down here in the Med might be disappointed... :D :p

Back to the point, thanks everybody for the interest and appreciation.
I apologize for not having the time yet to prepare a proper full report, but time being I'm pleased to confirm that Portofino is the winner of one of the most difficult "spot the boat" we have ever seen around here, because based only on one pic of the bow that I posted, which gave away close to nothing, he already nailed in this post of his not only the model, but also the very specific boat which I will soon call mine - a DP56, that is.
Which btw gives me the opportunity to re-link the same nice pic he used, because I'm well aware that "DP56" alone probably doesn't tell a lot to most folks outside IT...

Besides, for those of you who are also unaware of what "DP" stands for, in this webpage there's a brief history of the yard.
Which very, very sadly did not (as many others) survive the crisis. In fact, in spite of the website still active, the Company is not anymore in the hands of the original family, and the new shareholders have been completely unable so far to turnaround it... :(

Now, just to answer a few points that were raised:

@Nigelpickin:
while most of my Italian gourmet friends would strongly disagree, I actually very much like a properly prepared fish and chips - of which I had plenty, every time I've been in the UK.
But you will understand why a dinner in which I lost count of how many different (and/or differently prepared) types of fish and seafood we had, after the first dozen or so of antipasti, is imho in a different league...

@Stillwaters:
Hi J, I'm not surprised by your correct guess, but what makes you think she was a steal...?
Just curious, because while I'm happy with the deal I subscribed (if wouldn't have subscribed it if I weren't, obviously), "boat" and "bargain"/"steal"/whatever are words that I always tend to avoid using in the same sentence. :)

@Vas:
I suppose you are referring to Venice, which is of course correct, but that's hardly NW, in Italy..... :p

@Lambohill:
Same position? Do tell, are you also considering a DP?!? Now, that would be quite a coincidence!
Just PM me if you want to share any views, I've seen ALL of the DPs currently on the market (except the open ones).

@Hardmy:
Yep, Venice to CF is the plan, about 1200 Nm overall, the very same trip we made back in 2006 with the old tub.
Along the HR coast, then round the heel of IT, through Messina Strait and eventually S Sardinia.
Stopping here and there in the most nice places along the road.
It took us almost one month 10 years ago, at 8 to 9 knots.
Now, with a boat capable of cruising at anywhere between 8 and 28, we are planning to make it in... TWO months! :D
If not more... Stay tuned!

@BartW:
Hiya B! Naah, I'm nowhere near capable to fix anything on a big diesel engine, let alone its pump! :o
But I didn't forgot to ask about yours to the MAN engineer which was onboard with us during the seatrial.
And according to him, it's 99% likely that the pump shop screwed something in the revision of one of the pumps.
I also told him that you had both revised by the same Bosch center, but he explained me that here in IT (and I see no reason why it should be different where you are), any official Bosch service is just a private mechanic who attended Bosch training and got their seal of approval.
Which of course is better than any generic pump shop in principle, but as with anything else (prop shops, grp shops... you name it), there's the good, the bad and the ugly... :nonchalance:

Oh, and one last thing:
Custard is unheard of down here, but I hope that this short clip taken by swmbo will do.
Those of you who already met truly yours might recognize his shoulders at the end of the video, while getting instructions from the MAN guy in the e/r.
And enjoying the ride with a rather special helmsman: the person who, back in the days when the boat was built (2004), was the DP shareholder, CEO and CTO - no less.
Name me another seatrial done with the same kind of support, if you can! :encouragement:

very nice, P, very very nice!
Don't have time right now, just to note that I've never heard of that brand, and no wasn't referring to Venice, I thought you got a Cantieri di Pisa (thought D and P came from that....) so was referring to the city of the leaning tower fame and hordes of tourists...
Wishful thinking as I do like them but way too big for me!

again, many congratulations, looking forward to a slideshow of the boat and of course detailed report on the swift delivery trip :D

cheers

Very impressive M. I like it! Do you now have 2 boats or has the previous one gone?

26kts!! You'll be needing a 750,000l fuel tank:encouragement:

Fantastic, P, just fantastic! :encouragement:

An epic delivery trip ahead then. Or maybe shouldn't be called a delivery trip in that by just stepping onboard you have arrived :).
