1.2hp 4stroke too good to be true?

I met one of these outboards last summer, on the back of someone else’s tender. Instead of the gentle buzz expected of an outboard (of which there were plenty in the anchorage) this was a raucous din which quite disrupted conversation until it had disappeared round the corner. Seriously noisy, much more so than the air cooled Hondas which are pretty common in Greece. Wouldn’t touch the things with a barge pole: if I were forced to use one I’d make sure I was wearing hearing protection.
I had one of these Honda clones in a few weeks ago. 30 minutes usage and the gearbox cried enough. As they are yam/ mariner gearboxes I rebuilt it using Yamaha internals and inserted some much needed shims and it was as good as new.
I too was alarmed at the noise it made. You can replace the exhaust with a genuine Honda and that will quieter it somewhat.
I was impressed at the power it produced. It's a smaller cc than a 2.3 Honda, 53 cc compared with 57 cc for a genuine engine. In my test tub a good running 2 or 2.3 will push the water 3/4 of the way up the sides of the test tank, this clone 3.6 sent the water over the sides. Not very technical but works for me!
From what I saw I believe the 3.6 claimed horsepower to be correct. The only difference being exhaust , carb and final test drive.
Guess what my next project is going to be??

Old 2s 2hp Yamaha, I have one and a mariner and a Mercury 2.5 which are the same engine, they are very light but the yam can be lifted with one finger,

Looking forward to seeing what you produce!

The engine I was referring to is this one https://www.justathlete.co.uk/aquaparx-1-2-pk-outboard-motor . Truly nasty that no, not a Honda Clone at all.....
Am I right in this Ning that the Honda engine exhausts all exit through the leg?

It's a honda gx 25 clone .....built properly using a genuine Honda power head and decent leg and gearbox these would be a very very good power head but really need the cc enlarging to give it more power. They are fully sealed oil and fuel wise....OHC ,no stale fuel issues , or corroded float bowl and rocker cover. The engine I had was the bigger brother of this one

I have a Yam 3.5 aircooled job from 1980 and it just goes when you want. Not very light and a bit noisy., but 100% reliable. The noise precludes pleasure river trips.
I was also gifted a Yam 2a since it didn't work. Two people had tried and passed it on. I had a look and no spark, seem like the coil was duff, so not worth fixing. For reasons I forget, I looked at the plug lead and found the conducting core had retracted from the screw that secured it. Cut a bit off and refitted the cap, off she went. So, light, not very noisy and small. Just what the OP needs. No gears, but not a prob. Only catch, is that you have to wind the cord around the pulley each time, as no recoil start. Can such a thing be reto-fitted?

Hi yes you can retro fit a recoil but you need a cylinder head, fuel tank ,recoil and cowls from a 2b. You will also have to fabricate a faster for the rear recoil leg

The fuse for them used to come in handy for things involving sugar!

I just used to make a strong solution out of a portion on the sugar and weed-killer powder mixture and then soak a load of string in the liquid and then leave the string for a few days to dry out. You end up with an excellent fizzing fuse which is much cheaper than Jetex fuse. ;)
