1/2 inch pipe size?

Hi,

For fear of losing my sanity can somebody explain to me how to correctly size imperial pipework please.

I'm looking to fit a raw water inlet strainer for my 1GM10. Currently the rubber reinforced hose states 1/2 inch on the sleeve.

What is the internal diameter / bore therefore. All new plastic water strainers appear to state fits either a 1", 1.25" or 1.5" ?

Where the hose fits to the water pump this is 1/2" so I'm guessing that I need a water strainer with similar sizing.

Will a 1/2" reinforced hose (as I have currently) fit to the new water strainer if it's either 1", 1.25" or 1.5" ?

Just found it on ebay - I'm sure other makes are around.

It sounds as if you need to buy a 13mm strainer if you want to retain the same hose.

As said above the hose size is the bore diameter

The stepped connections on the strainer in the link are designed to accept 12.7mm ( 1/2") , 15.9 mm ( 5/8") or 19.1mm ( 3/4") bore hose


The sizes quoted for this tpe of strainer https://www.asap-supplies.com/fitti...raw-water-intake-strainer-hull-mounted-402025 are the BSP ( British standard pipe) thread size of the inlet and outlet and ( in mm) the overall dimensions. (They come in a range of BSP sizes) In this case you would need to match the BSP size of the seacock valve and a hose tail with the same BSP thread but to also fit the hose eg this one with a 1/"2 BSP tapered thread to accept 13mm hose


Fact of life. When matching hose to fittings is that it come in two sizes Too small and too large

I take the fitting off the motor (or take the ball valve) to the boat chandlery and go through their shelves until I find a fitting that fits.
