I have been cleaning up my 1998 Volvo Penta SX drive this weekend getting it ready to do various service jobs. I need to remove the pivot housing to change the bellows, the manual says use a 1/2" hex drive to remove the pivot bolts, but the bolts don't actually have six flats like an Allen socket, they appear more of a (Torx type) but not Torx if that makes sense. I'm not saying a hex drive won't fit, but if the bolts are tight there seems a good risk of stripping the head of the bolts. Can anyone put my mind at ease, or offer any advise? Sorry but I don't have any photo's to show what I mean.

PS I have soaked them with "ease it oil" and won't be doing the job for another week.

Its a 14mm type spline tool, you can buy one from marinepower at Bursledon, look on there website and click on the special tool section.

Thanks, that looks the very thing! Before I order it, the one I have found on their site doesn't say it is 14mm instead it calls it a Mercruiser tool, is this the right one?

It's a 1/2" hex, believe me, I just refitted mine today. It looks "multiplined" but it's based on 1/2" and the 1/2" hex fits. I'm in Cheshire as well, if you want to borrow the tool I have, (I won't need mine again until next October), PM me, but please give it back ( cost me £15 some 10 years ago !)
