Re: More recent

Chichester decided not to compete with the pack in 1968. He would be up against men sailing larger boats, and the outcome must have been clear to him: he would be the game old campaigner who would manage a respectable placing halfway through the fleet. He quietly set off to do something else.

Sailing alone around the world was nothing new. The Nova Scotian-born American Joshua Slocum, a sailing ship master beached in his middle years by the steam age, was the first to do it in 1895-8. He sailed from Gloucester, Massachusetts, west-about around the globe, against ferocious prevailing winds through the Strait of Magellan, north of Cape Horn

I don't think your software can count properly. For instance, the number of pages is incorrect when there is one reply on a new page. Further to that, the new reply can only becomes visible when a further reply is made.

Gosh,

Yet another day off out and about, and the number gradually creeps up.....

As an aside, just happened to see an ILB launch today off the beach, just yards from where we were sitting... or rather not launch..... it wouldn't start on the trailer.... so to my 7yr old son's delight, they launched the hovercraft instead... eyes on stalks as it floated past just 20 feet from where we were sitting....

All to rescue an inflatable boat....

There I was sailing along happily on port tack when a racing boat aaproached on starboard tack on my quater shouting for me to give way a a) he was racing and b) he was on starboard. I did't like his tone so ignored him completely .. was I right to do so?

Without an audio stream of the incident it is impossible for me to make a meaningful assessment. However, as in most things, I trust your judgment implicitly and cannot imagine that you were in the wrong.
