VP 2003 thermostat and cooling/hot water

Sounds like you have the classic raw water cooled VP2003 with calorifier - symptoms are usually engine overheating, no hot water in calorifier or only tepid hot water. The reason for this is that the calorifier introduces additional friction in the water circulation. What is supposed to happen...

    Cherbourg still dodgy

I was there from Friday till Monday evening and I would thoroughly recommend going during a blockade - Marina is free and you can stock up on free shower tokens for your next visit. Fishermen provide barbecues and they even kindly threw present of bottles of beer to some yachts that wanted to...

    Navico LS200 Cockpit Speaker

I'm looking for one of these black square surface mount speakers - new or secondhand. Need to try to get identical model to replace faulty speaker so no new holes!. Havn't seen one in a catalogue for ages. Navico LS200 Thanks, Dave

Getting to the masthead on a fractional rig.

Easiest way is to raft up alongside another boat and go up their mast instead. You then just lasoo your own mast and pull the two boats together. Should be able to do that easy enough with Sigma. Dave.

    RIB Tube Repair near Bournemouth

Hi, hope someone can help. I've got a small 4M Avon Sea Rider RIB. I've had to detach from the hull/transom about 1M of one of the rear sponsons in order to repair a crack in the fibreglass flange. Does anyone know anyone in the Bournemouth / Christchurch / Poole area who can re-fit the...

    First yacht

Why don't you charter a similar one for a week or even a weekend. There are plenty of Dufour models around for charter. You will soon know if it's right for you. Just a thought - personally on a shoal keel boat I wouldn't want in-mast reefing, mainly due to the extra weight up top. Why not...

    First Boat recommendations

You would be lucky to find a reasonable Evolution 26 for £10K. In any case - it's a race boat with very little headroom, so may not meet the criteria for having extra people on board for weekends. May be better off looking for an Evolution 25 which has the same hull / hydraulic keel etc. but...

Servicing a Lewmar 16 ST winch

Thanks - there are no visible screws or circlips etc. so I guess I probably do have the type where you unscrew the self tailing head. Thanks everyone for the advice. Dave

Servicing a Lewmar 16 ST winch

I badly need to service a pair of Lewmar 16 Self Tailing winches fitted on my coach roof. I'm assuming I need to unbolt them from underneath in order to get them apart as I can't see any other obvious way of doing it. Can anyone please confirm that this is indeed the case before I take down...

    Mudeford Quay

Hi Ray - Welcome to the forum. I've been sailing out of Christchurch for ever - and it certainly is the kind of place you get to fall in love with. Much of Christchurch either dries or is very shallow at low water, so it is only really suitable for boats that can take the ground and draw less...

First crossing - Barfleur, Alderney or .....?

St Vaast is much much nicer than Cherbourg, and Cherbourg on a Sunday is extremely boring. I haven't looked at the tides for St Vaast but surely if you are going down on the ebb to the Needles, then you'll probably be near the Barfleur light about 12 hrs later and the tide will be ebbing...
