Marina to stage a boat for Western Approaches crossing later

We'll be on the same track then, it has to be early September for me I think. I'll probably hop off ferry in Plymouth and rent a car to drive us back to Chi and set off from there.

Marina to stage a boat for Western Approaches crossing later

Yes, these are my usual routes, Chichester to Cherbourg or Studland/Portland to Alderney. Hence to St Peter Port -> Treguier. I really like to visit Treguier. The new stops for me will be Roscoff, L'Aber Wrac'h, then Brest or Camaret, Concarneau another stop at L'Orient or Port-Louis or direct...

Marina to stage a boat for Western Approaches crossing later

What a great idea, thank you, not sure about the depth in there though. It looks like it would be a good stop-over especially with public transportation. Staging the boat in the West isn't really adding up unfortunately.

Marina to stage a boat for Western Approaches crossing later

I'm coming from Chichester, I'm 5 day sails from Plymouth or Falmouth if the weather co-operates, which I have found to be less likely in August. I don't think I'll have the crew for longer passages that can take advantage of shorter weather windows until I can collect my son at the end of...

Marina to stage a boat for Western Approaches crossing later

Do you know of West Country marina that is not ruinously expensive to moor for a month or so in preparation for later crossing to Roscoff (i.e. a month rate) ? I suspect this question will be met with incredulous hilarity but for complicated reasons I could do with staging the boat in Plymouth...

Too small to cross The Channel? Ambition v Confidence

I think Poole/Studland to Alderney is a great route. Our first time across we started from Poole but did abort the crossing because it was too rough for us off Anvil Point and for few miles thereafter. It did not look to be subsiding. It probably was the seas kicking up around the headland but...

Identify Yacht with Rx on sail.

I took a photo of a gaffer with with Rx on sail off St Peter Port on the morning of 2106-07-15, The logo looks a bit like the Rustler one, anyone know what yacht this is ? I thought the owner might like a copy ifI could send it to owners association. Here is attempt to share this url of the...

BORG Survey of studland eelgrass - 1 st report now available

It was white roots with mud/clay, our anchor does pick up some clay if we anchor in it. I trust this can complicate the discussion now with a digression into the effect of different anchor types. This was the first time I had observed this. The sea grass we picked up in this case sank swiftly...

BORG Survey of studland eelgrass - 1 st report now available

I think it's very constructive that BORG are presenting evidence. We were at Studland at the end of July, We anchored relatively far out with the deeper keel boats . For the first time ever in many anchorings in Studland I saw that our anchor picked up rooted Sea Grass. The "root ball" was...
