Marina to stage a boat for Western Approaches crossing later

Do you know of West Country marina that is not ruinously expensive to moor for a month or so in preparation for later crossing to Roscoff (i.e. a month rate) ? I suspect this question will be met with incredulous hilarity but for complicated reasons I could do with staging the boat in Plymouth or Falmouth before returning to deliver it to Brittany. If anyone has done this, would be good to hear.

May seem silly, but Milford Haven is a 24 hour sail from Newlyn. A 1 month stay is £60 per M. Is that as expensive as places like Falmouth? Possibly not. Safe & spaces available I believe.
Leave the boat there & move it nearer when ready to do the crossing. Really depends where you are coming from to begin with, of course.

Plymouth Yacht Haven would be £75 per m and is your best bet for access from up country via the A38. It's good but may not have room for you.

Mayflower is £70 per m and probably would be able to accommodate you but it means driving an extra 1/2 hour, sometimes more, as it is in the city. At times it also has a lot of tide on the berths you are likely to be allocated; as you may only be coming in and going out once or so, this may not be a great problem.
Both have parking for one car. The other options are generally more expensive or have other drawbacks.

Yeah, but the price difference could be well worth it. Its just around the lizard.
The Op is talking about a trip to Roscoff from the Uk, so a sail lasting a day from any point should be well within his capabilities. Another day may not be a problem to him if cost is.
He has not said where he is actually coming from, in the first instance. If coming from the west then Penzance is Ok. But does it not have depth issues in one part & involve rafting in the other? I would not want to leave a boat rafted, whereby others might have to be relied upon to move it. Nor would I want to leave a boat unattended, to rise & fall against a harbour wall.

I'm coming from Chichester, I'm 5 day sails from Plymouth or Falmouth if the weather co-operates, which I have found to be less likely in August. I don't think I'll have the crew for longer passages that can take advantage of shorter weather windows until I can collect my son at the end of August. He's at Uni in Falmouth. Thanks for your all advice, I can look at the numbers now and compare to the cost of other options :). At least they have a monthly rate, comparing Plymouth Yacht Haven around £2.50 per meter per day vs £4.60 per m per d. Milford Haven is around £2.00 per meter per day. I've moored at Plymouth Yacht Haven before, taking the little ferry across to the city, had a very nice visit.

Do you have a berth at Chichester already?
Coming from Chichester, then MHaven is a no no. But Chichester to Roscoff is about 210 miles. Why not stay there & sail Chichester to Guernsey ( St peter port is great for a 24 hour, or more, stop over) then it is 70 miles to Roscoff.
If you want to time the Alderney race for the tides, then go to Cherbourg, which is easy enough. Check in to Schengan at Cherbourg & go straight to Roscoff, (120M) from there.
Alternatively, you could go outside Alderney from Chichester & stop at Alderney for a day to rest.
makes it an interesting trip.
If you could sail SH or can get a crew, then Chichester-Cherbourg is the place to go. Berths are no dearer than S coast, as you get a 25% deal if you are a club member, RYA, tufty club, etc. etc. Probably as safe as any other place. Then nip over on ferry when ready. Just do not get tied in with the Fastnet mob. Not sure when that is.

I have never had any great problems with weather at August. Hope not, as I intend to go to Camaret mid August/early Sept from Ostend.

Have you tried Turf Lock on the Exeter Canal, just up from Exmouth? I used that for a month a couple of years ago.
Current prices in the basin: £16.25 per metre per month. See Visitor Berths on the Exeter Canal - Exeter City Council

I found it a lovely place to stay. Extremely quiet and sheltered. Great pub right there. Friendly staff. And very accessible by public transport (train to Topsham then foot ferry). When I was there, they didn't charge for daytime locking in/out, but do check as their guide isn't crystal clear on the matter.

It's a tad east of where you'd like, so you won't have as good a slant in a Southwesterly.

What a great idea, thank you, not sure about the depth in there though. It looks like it would be a good stop-over especially with public transportation. Staging the boat in the West isn't really adding up unfortunately.

I agree with Daydream believer. Maybe e.g. Chichester to Cherbourg or Alderney - - Guernsey - - somewhere around Paimpol/Lezardiuex/Treguier - - Roscoff.

Holiday starts earlier, less trekking backwards and forwards to West Country.
Yes, these are my usual routes, Chichester to Cherbourg or Studland/Portland to Alderney. Hence to St Peter Port -> Treguier. I really like to visit Treguier. The new stops for me will be Roscoff, L'Aber Wrac'h, then Brest or Camaret, Concarneau another stop at L'Orient or Port-Louis or direct to Port du Croesty if the tides/conditions work out.

We'll be on the same track then, it has to be early September for me I think. I'll probably hop off ferry in Plymouth and rent a car to drive us back to Chi and set off from there.
