    Removing old seacocks.

We have 2 old gate valve seacocks we want to replace. One of them is fitted with a strainer (similar to photo). I'm assuming (due to age - mine as well as the boat!) that I won't be able to undo the securing nut inside so I'm expecting to be using the angle grinder. How easy will it be to cut...

    Problem at injection pump?

Thanks for your further replies folks. Just to be clear, can someone indicate on the attached exploded diagram which part should be slackened to allow the compressed air to escape. The various components are all numbered in the diagram but the 'key' to these numbers is in Swedish . . . and I...

    Problem at injection pump?

Thanks to all for comments so far. Was back on the boat today and first thing I did was slacken the 10mm nut at the pump (where the fuel is delivered from the fine filter). No shortage of air-free fuel flooding out there. Next, (after tightening that 10mm nut) was to slacken the slot-headed...

    Problem at injection pump?

Have a Volvo MD5A and there is no fuel getting from the pressure injection pump to the injector. Fuel is present through the fine filter and to the injection pump -- fuel flows freely from the bleed screw at the filter and floods out of the 10mm nut at the pump but nothing gets to the injector...

Help! - - want to change fuel filter.

Thanks for the further comments and advice. Didn't have any nappies but an old pair of jeans did the job when I removed the filter housing.

Help! - - want to change fuel filter.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments. Have been back on the boat and removed the filter. It's shown (top & bottom views) in the attached photo alongside a Mann filter. I used the filter part no (870065) to do a Google search and the MANN P 715 came up consistently. As there are some...

Help! - - want to change fuel filter.

Thanks Paul. That looks like a better bleed option as that slotted screw was a bit of a bu99er to get to.

    Thanks Footsoldier for your advice.

Help! - - want to change fuel filter.

Thanks VicS for your reply. The diagram and the link you included were helpful. (I like to know what 'lurks beneath' before I start dismantling things!) In the diagram, the bleed screw (No 10) is shown as hex head but ours is a rather chewed up slot-headed screw -- I assume it's a metric...

Help! - - want to change fuel filter.

It's a Volvo MD5A and it's the fine filter that needs changed. I've never done this before (just learning about marine diesels) and just want to know what to look out for. The photo shows the filter (at least the best view I could get in the very restriced space). Is the hex headed bolt above...

    Help bleeding MD5A

Thanks ean_p, ChromeDome and coopec for your suggestions. I should have said that I had done an internet search previously but must say that in any photos or drawings of the MD5A that I found, I found it almost impossible to see and identify any small items that we should be looking for. Have...

    Help bleeding MD5A

Since we got the boat (Leisure 23) last July that Volvo has always started 1st or 2nd turn until last weekend. It reluctantly started, ran for about a minute then cut out and wouldn't restart. We're hoping it just needs bled (and both of us aren't very conversant with marine diesel engines) and...

    Hank-on jib for furling?

Thanks for your replies ~ just as I suspected, that wouldn't be the most practical arrangement. Both of the other sails have boltropes sewn in, although we haven't yet tried to see if they'll fit in the foil. That's for another day!

    Hank-on jib for furling?

Advance apologies for convoluted question. When we got the boat ('78 Leisure 23) its jib had obviously had a previous life as a hank-on sail -- the eyelets are still there. It has a sewn-in boltrope which fits the furling foil so it's pretty much a 'normal' furling jib. Lurking in the...

    Seacock problem.

A previous owner removed the sea toilet and ran a hose from the toilet INTAKE to serve the engine cooling -- all the way from a forward heads position to the engine. (See the grey hose in the attached photo.) I would NOT recommend that to anyone as it would be an understatement to say it was...
