Competent Crew Courses

Hi Mazzyh - I have to agree with everyones advice here, it's all good. I started out in a dinghy near Reading and moved on to yachts a few years later. I love both...even if I don't have a dinghy any more (but would like one!). The RYA web site lists all RYA schools, or if you want...

    International Yachtmaster Courses (IYT)

I believe they have in the UK and that they have applied for it in Europe. It's currently being contested by both IYT and perhaps more significantly the MCA who quite reasonably state that they can't as it's a generic term used by rather mor than just the RYA.

    International Yachtmaster Courses (IYT)

Does anyone have any experience of thse courses? i.e. has anyone looked into them in any detail and or taken one? They seem as good an option as RYA to me in that they are training courses which by virtue of being MCA recognised have attained a certain quality bar. What do you think - are...

    Tidal Streams - South Africa

Does anyone have any ideas on where I can go to find out tidal stream information for South African waters (Durban specifically). I've been told it isn't tidal but would like somewhere to double check this. Thanks, Richard

    Books on Turkish coast

Can anyone point me in the direction of any books they know of which I could use to find out about cruising the Turkish coast line around the Marmaris area. I did wonder about the Med cruising books by Rod....someone! Can't remember his surname. Thanks, Richard

    Greece or Croatia?

Thanks for your reply - to clarify though, we I don't personally sell charters, but work with companies who choose to pay for advertising to promote their boats via our site. Really our focus is on working with RYA schools. Thanks, Richard

    Greece or Croatia?

What are people's experiences of chartering in Croatia v's Greece? You hear that Croatia is an up and ocming area, but does that mean it's rough around the edges? Which do you think is the better of the two for chartering in? All views appreciated! Thanks, Richard

    Nearest boat lift to Cherbourg?

Can anyone tell me where the nearest boat lift (we're 8 tons) to Cherbourg is? We were planning to be lifted onto a lorry next week and have just found out that their lift is not working betweeb Tuesday and Friday. Our mast is down, hence we're looking for somewhere to motor to. Many thanks...

    Prep for transport by lorry?

Hi Peter - thanks for the info, it all helps to make sure we have as pain free a transfer as possible! In answer to where we're moving her to, she's off from her old home (Poole Harbour, UK south coast) to Ampuriabrava which is in Spain just below the French border on the Mediterranean...

    Prep for transport by lorry?

Hello Peter - thanks for your reply, all very reassuring. Can you tell me how you prepared the mast? i.e. did you remove all electrical fittings (ariels, lights etcc.), any winches and how did you protect the mast during transit? We were thinking of wrapping it in a couple of layers of...

    Echosounder gone haywire

Thanks - and yes it is through hull. I can't say I've ever closely looked at the fitting, but would have assumed it was a sealed unit. Have you done this yourself and if so do you know what I should look for? i.e. is it a screw fitting or am I looking for a latch or screw to undo? Many...

    Echosounder gone haywire

Today I noticed our echo going off the rails a bit as it was reading between 0 to 11m in depth and everything in between. We only went back in the water a couple of days ago and hence haven't used it as yet (straight to a berth). Assuming the problem is the transducer, could anti-foul cause...

    Prep for transport by lorry?

Many thanks for the info - did you empy fuel as well as water tanks? It's the former which is the slight problem being full with 120 litres of fuel right now. We could dump it somewhere or motor round in circles for a day or so but not my chosen option..... Thanks, Richard <hr width=100%...
