12V92TA 1080HP Detroit Diesel engines -2 Stroke Diesel

    > That said... What difference does it really make for you? We are talking in a fuel consumption thread ... I guess weight plays a role in fuel consumption ? Lets run some numbers thru Gerrs... 40ton we have 350 SHP at 11/12 kn for that boat ... now lets change it to 80ton ... blimey ! 717 HP...

12V92TA 1080HP Detroit Diesel engines -2 Stroke Diesel

Thanks Porto, well the fact that it apparently is 80 tons of weight is already putting me off all this ordeal and swerving back to the SQ58 / 62 which may be less of a gamble after all. Specially if you are burning 100K a year in depreciation alone and using it for 80 hours a year, you cannot...

12V92TA 1080HP Detroit Diesel engines -2 Stroke Diesel

Guys im well aware of costs and such, i just wanted to know if buying a boat with that particular engine will get me more in trouble than some other engine. That's all. I did had a look at other boats (vz18, guy coauch 195, sq62) and in this mix this one came up so asking for advice. But not...

12V92TA 1080HP Detroit Diesel engines -2 Stroke Diesel

Older Sanlorenzo for example have them. So this dealer has a SL70 from 91. The boat is internally very good, looks properly cared for, engine room clean, no smell / water stains etc and a sub-200K Euro price. One engine 1000 hours, the other 1680. But: boat has the 12V92TA 2 Stroke engines...

    Extended low power operation

You can work out the load from the engine manufacturer curve at a given rpm, there is a site https://boatdiesel.com/ which is absolutely worth the 20$ a year subscription. If I understand it correctyl and I may be wrong by a mile - for displacement speed: This MTU for example just around 1000...

Guy coauch 19-20 mt yachts opinions ?

I had a look at a yacht this weekend (sadly could not get on board as broker busy etc), Guy Couach 195. Just under 20 meters, 800hp mtus and whopping 5000 lt diesel tank. To me looked a decent boat to do what I have in mind (tons of 10kn cruising and the occasional quick dash). We liked it...

    VZ 18

There is a vz20 down here in portosole (which I think is also for sale but really too big for me) - looks built strong as a warship. Just towering over the other boats.

    VZ 18

Thanks for your insight, Asterion 55 like this one DALLA PIETA' DP 55' Asterion Fly -2 - 1996 for example - nice boat and lots of value for that price.

    VZ 18

Not that the dp56 (alnair) is so much smaller than a vz18 or a sl62 but of course why getting a bigger one if you can do with a smaller one. Someone suggested the Maine 530 to me, considering that I do 10kn cruising and the oomps are only there for when we mess up the weather or just want to...

    VZ 18

Mapi looks like we are evaluating the same kind of boats. Sl57 you need to open a hatch climb down to enter the engine room, the one I look at had a huge aircon unit blocking access to everywhere - it was a holiday home basically. For me just the option of being able to just walk down stairs...

    VZ 18

The sl57 i visited was in a poor shape, the wood gave this rotting smell, the owner did not wanted to open the curtains.. I guess this was what put us off completely. I know is not a very common boat, there is a vz20 in portosole and a vz18 in imperia, someone told me they are very well built...

    VZ 18

Hi all, In my quest for a "better boat" I got offered a VZ 18 from 2002 (which is not advertised I think) which is absolutely spotless (I attach a engine room pic to give you an idea), the interior is even more impressive. 1700 hours on the MAN 820. The big issue we have is the owner went for...

    Port Cogolin SOF

Or go to Frejus which has 3 marinas, easy highway access, and the town is alive all year round (a bit cheap familiy tourism in summer). St. Tropez is a circus all year round and unless you want to buy plastic clothes is not really anything at all. There is a nice cheap boat there for sale 2000...
