    Picking up swinging mooring

I normally tow my dinghy when out for the day but would prefer to leave it made fast to the pick up buoy. I have managed it a few times but have always been worried when shaping up to the buoy about getting the dinghy and the buoy on opposite sides of the boat and finishing up with the painter...

    Bounty Abandoned

Apart from the throw away line re chasing hurricanes the master came over as a very experienced seamen. If he had been master for nineteen years then he would have come to grief a lot sooner if was as foolhardy as the posts suggest. He mentioned that in a hurricane he headed for the SE...

    Reefing

I have a sliding goose neck and all lines at the mast. Normal reefing procedure is: Starboard tack, Tiller pilot on, sail as close to the wind as possible without stalling, ease the main, check the boat is sailing ok under jib, up to the mast, ease the kicker, check there is no slack in the...

I started subscribing...

Adapter CAV to Screw on filter

If you were replying to my post you obviously didn't read it properly. The question I asked was 'was the O ring 'held' in the seating groove in the head of the assembly ?'

Adapter CAV to Screw on filter

When I changed the CAV filter I did not change the top O ring between the cartridge and the head of the assembly as due to the position I could not see what I would be doing. Does the large O ring come out easily and when putting in the new one does it seat in and stay in position as you push...

    Seafarer 901

I was out the other day and the sounder just fixed on a depth which was obviously wrong. Despite switching it off and on a number of times it still was locked on to the same wrong depth. I went back to my mooring and restarted it and hey presto it was ok. I ran it for twelve hours and functioned...

Hanks or furler? That is the question...

Great when you are singlehanding and the autohelm goes walkabout due to lack of steerage way and the bow is coming back and forth through the wind. Meanwhile you are trying to stuff the old sail in the bag etc.... I would have given up sailing years ago if I still had hanked on sails !
