They need to rise and drop without jamming so a bit of trial and error might sort it.
The section is as important as the diameter so they slide freely up and down.
Make up one hoop so you can try it on a test bit of something the same diameter as your mast.

You want some shim brass and make a washer to go under the nut.
Set the nut up so the holes line up and measure the gap under the nut with feelers add a few thou for a good tight fit.
Make a washer to the feeler size plus a few thou.
Good little engines looked after they would run all day just occasionally the front plug could foul up, the trick was to open the gap a few thou.
A friend had one in a canal launch on the Bridgewater at Lymm, I rebuilt it for him in the 1980s as far as I know it is still running.

It is far better if you can fit Studs for manifolds and use silicon-bronz nuts or even brass nuts with graphite grease on them they should never seize up enough to brake the studs.

Is the clear cable with the pan head screw, it looks like it is a low tension ground from the generator coil if it is then if it is disconnected from ground does it kill the spark if so then fit your kill cord switch in to it.
Is it a boom free sail? make a quick fit boom it will flatten the sail, we did it on a Drascome 19 and it improved the performance to wind a huge amount.
