I ued the Gray v/p paint on my 290 leg and it has been great, but I did use a decent etching primer first then applied the main paint, very tough stuff. The think stuff you have seen I think is paintable out drive antifoul paint, I tried years ago and hatted it looks awful but serves a purpose.
