    He, she or it.

Nostro has been known to navel-gaze, not that he's alone in that. One might even call him a navel inspector. "a team is a group" is right. For such a bright chap, you seem strangely lost about the meaning of "a".

    He, she or it.

I quite agree that it would be ludicrously fussy to insist on it, which is no doubt why the use has declined. But you'd also describe them as a team or a club: singular. And a pretty good one in recent seasons (y)

    He, she or it.

Are you perhaps missing my point? I'm referring to people using "they" or "their" when talking of, say, the England cricket team. Strictly, it should be "it" or "its": singular, no gender (even a single-sex team).

    He, she or it.

Gender neutrality, I suppose, which isn't all about political correctness. How would you politely refer to a forumite of unknown gender (many are to you and I, if not to themselves). "They" and "their" are probably more cordial that "it" and "its". English does lack an appropriate pronoun. It's...

Why no tidal currents in Northern Spain

Nah, Perth's not even a thousand miles away ;) A few tinnies of Swan will see you right. Cheers.

Why no tidal currents in Northern Spain

Coopec: I'm certainly no authority on the subject, but regarding your general suggestion can I perhaps refer you to post #3? You might also note that the Port of Spain you linked to is in the Caribbean.

Why no tidal currents in Northern Spain

I thought amphidromes, such as the one off Islay, are areas of low tidal range rather than necessarily of current (but I could be diametrically wrong). Might the slight currents robertager describes be more to do with the narrowness of the continental shelf off N Spain (typically <20M, compared...

    Reassurance?

This won't tell you much about sailing, lindsay, but it might whet your anticipation even more. My mother-in-law's first words after coming home from her cataract op were "what have you done to my carpets?!"** A wonderful thing to experience, even second-hand. Good luck. ** You'll understand...

French built 2004/5 Jeanneau fuel tank sender resistance

Do you know or can you measure (independent of gauges) roughly how full the tank is? If near-full or near-empty, the resistance should show you whether Euro or US.

    NHS Treatment Restrictions

S1 subjects certainly have that right, Tony. Ours are UK-issue. (I think they arrived automatically, but that could just be senile decay.) I've no doubt you're aware that S1 entitles you to full, free NHS healthcare in the UK to which, as a non-resident, you wouldn't normally be entitled. But...

Should I have my MaxiProp feathering propeller serviced professionally or is this something I can do myself?

If it's had no attention other than cleaning for six years, then it's no great surprise the blades are a little sloppy: it should be greased every year. Maxprop maintenance is fully covered in the handbook. Stripping, cleaning and rebullding the prop is simple enough, BUT clean the prop as you...

    NHS Treatment Restrictions

Nortada: apologies: I've only just seen your edit. Your agreement to the text in red is touching but irrelevant. That's the EU's stated position. Whether we agree is neither here nor there. Again, the point I'm arguing relates entirely to post-Brexit, nothing to do with current rights and...

    NHS Treatment Restrictions

Nortada/anyone else. No need to take my word for it: Q: I have a valid long stay visa/residence permit for a country that is part of the Schengen area. Do I need another visa to travel to other Schengen states? A: No. A long stay visa or a residence permit issued by a Schengen State allows you...
