    VHF not transmitting

Assuming it receives OK then check the power supply wiring. If it looks black rather than clean copper cut it back or replace with new wire. The black is cupric oxide which creates resistance (I believe) , hence not able to transmit but can receive. Using tinned cables helps protect against this.

    Curing the pox

I've just about completed this on my 10m boat and it took a lot longer than I imagined. I did it myself as the cost of a full osmosis treatment couldn't be justified from what I paid for the boat in the first place (as mentioned above). A few comments : Drying it in the open over winter...

    Solent II Autopilot

Has anyone got one still in use or had any experience with one? Is there by any freak chance a company that took the manufacturer over that might still do service/advice? I'm not hopeful here!

    Paddle wheel logs

I have currently got my boat out of the water and I'm in the process, amongst other things, of upgrading electronics etc. The boat has a paddle wheel log (working) and the question is: If I'm using a chartplotter/gps do I need to leave the log in place (another hole through the hull) or not...

    Anchor related

Thanks one and all and I'm afraid the conclusion I had come to was that of kashurst... but thought I'd try on here first..... called clutching at straws!!

    Anchor related

I have a Birchwood TS33 Viceroy which I have been spending time on bringing upto date re electronics etc. Currently on the Severn but I intend moving it to South Coast come April....so anchoring isn't such a big issue at the moment. However, it will be so I've now turned my attention to the...

    Before I break something....

I have just acquired an old Birchwood... a TS33 Viceroy (circa 1985 vintage). Mechanically the boat is excellent but very "tired", one "tired" bit being the window seals. Before starting what could end in a debacle I thought a post on here first! Fingers crossed! I am looking to replace the...

    Proof of VAT

Look at Tranona's first response...basically..Older vessels built before 1985 are deemed VAT paid if they were in the EU on December 31, 1992, providing there’s paperwork to support both dates. Without more info it's difficult to give definitive answers and it would only likely be an issue if...

Redkite mayday relay Solent Sat 9th Aug

The distressed boat must have had a VHF as RedKite was relaying info. In fact RedKite began by asking Solent CG if they had picked up the Mayday. At one point Solent cg asked RedKite to check if the distress boat had a mobile phone and asked them to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard! We could...

Redkite mayday relay Solent Sat 9th Aug

The distress was off Ryde around 2 ish in the afternoon on Saturday 9th Aug. Red Kite lady did an excellent job relaying the info and the CG did eventually ask what sort of keel the distress boat had. I understand they were pulled clear by Gosport ILB. Three quarters of an hour later we were...

How many aerials does a mobo need

Might be they have true duplex working....need to have two to transmit and receive on different frequencies. Most of us use semi-duplex, in and out on the same aerial.
