Here's good start for the UK: UK Double Handed Offshore Series

The Round Britain & Ireland Race

Symmetric boats like the 1010 and many of the 3600's will usually beat A-Sail boats on VMG runs unless they are ultra light displacement, which the 3300 is not. On a windy fetch, reach or bow up conditions the 3300 leave the 1010 and 3600's for dead. Each boat will have, and does have, its day.

SORC (Solo Offshore Racing Club) are staging the first major post Lock Down yacht race in the UK. 36 yachts - 26 solo and 10 double handed, racing on Sunday 27th June 2020. The Double Handers are family/same household. The soloists don't have a problem social distancing!!! Looks like a hot fleet...

    AZAB 2023

My boat at the time was a Sun Fast 3600. I had a B&G H5000 system and pilot computer running a Raymarine linear Type 2 ram. I have recent experience of the B&G, Raymarine and NKE pilot systems. Both NKE and B&G are superior in performance to Raymarine, but the Raymarine ram has least friction in...

    AZAB 2023

I did the 2015 AZAB both ways solo. Cat 1 regs will not be a problem for the Hanse 418 - it is just kit, some minor mods, saftey gear and money To get to the start, do the outward leg, chill out in the Azores, finish the race, get back to your home port - definitely 4 weeks I qualified for the...

    Staysail

The 3200 comes with a centreline mooring cleat on the foredeck. This is positioned over the aft end of the anchor locker where there is addtional laminate where the anchor locker well is laminated in. I moved the mooring cleat. Plenty of strength there for a tack point, which on my boat was a...

    Staysail

Here's a picture of the Spinnaker Staysail on my Sun Fast 3200. Has it's own torsion stay inside the luff and a furler and is hoisted on the spare genoa halyard. No rating penalty and a definite speed increase in the right conditions.

    A raft of new launches

The IRC rating of the Sun Fast 3300 at Spi Ouest includes water ballast and carbon rig. Water ballast is optional and won't be needed for fully crewed racing. The JPK rating for "Leon" also includes water ballast & carbon rig. The JPK is longer, narrower and heavier than the 3300.

Selling / Buying / Part exchange

The p/x price given and the price paid for the new boat is academic. It is the price to change that counts. A dealer with stock is paying floorplan interest, curtailments after the boat is in stock for a while, and tying up cash. They want to downsize and move their new stock on. Stock...

    Spinnaker -IRC Rating

On my 3200 the rating went up 2 points to carry a 4th spinnaker AND to change the Dyform forestay to a rod forestay. So the hit for just the 4th spinnaker is likely to be 1 point.

Bowman, gybe actions, end to end.

I can vouch for the Foolish Muse main first solo gybe method. This is exactly how I do my solo gybes on my Sun Fast 3200. You can pretty much gybe at will in most conditions and you can sail indefinitely with the pole "on the wrong side" and choose your moment for going forward to gybe the pole...

What is happening to Dry stack sailing at Universal Marina?

I am a Sun Fast 3200 owner and was a very happy dry sail customer at Universal. It was a lovely place to be with friendly attentive staff (many of who have recently left), and a buzzing social scene evolving. I was offered continuation of a dry sail contract, but the price jump was circa 70%...

    Bavaria V Jeanneau

Last year my final short list was down to a Sun Odyssey 379 or a Bavaria 37. I went down the Jeanneau route as, quite simply, it sailed fantastically compared to the Bavaria, and it was a sailing boat I wanted, not a caravan. To be fair the Bavaria was not bad, it was just that the Jeanneau was...
