    Stainless eye bolt failure

I would be disinclined to trust a bolt. Better with s/s flat bar.

Might I also suggest Ramonol wheel bearing grease which I believe is waterproof.

If you drop tap water on the lateral flow test - it registers positive.

    Overnighting onboard in Scotland

There is one advantage to being a Scot wearing a kilt - no chance of getting your knickers in a twist! Stop worrying about the unlawful restrictions and get on with enjoying your boating. If you are not sure, then watch ukcolumn.org for the most accurate information. Many of us up here...

Refueling stops on the East Coast.

Thanks for all the useful info. If this easy weather with light winds continues it looks like we shan't have to resort to using the oars. Lol.

Refueling stops on the East Coast.

Thank you for a prompt reply. At Whitby fuel has to be arranged in cans, Hartlepool has no indication of a fuel berth. The rest seem good, thank you.

Refueling stops on the East Coast.

Planning a passage trip from Port Edgar (North Queensferry) to Portsmouth in a week or two. As far as I can determine there are not many places to pop in and get more fuel. I have identified Newcastle and Lowestoft as two possibles but I would very much appreciate any further info. Perhaps...

Using a drop nose pin instead of a clevis pin or bolt.

Very handy to have line tied onto your drop nose pin because it is easy to drop it overboard.

Yamahah 5hp 2 stroke - Idles ok, struggles with throttle?

An excellent presentation and detailed explanation but one vital detail missed out and I am very surprised it was not mentioned. A lot of reference to the vacuum in the crankcase and the resulting pulse to make the carburettor function. What was omitted was a failing of the vacuum/pulse...

Advice on best conditions for a RIB

I think the answer is 'how hard to you want to hold on?'. Ribs and inflatables are capable of weathering a wide variety of sea conditions so if you are uncomfortable, then get a bigger boat. Thereafter it is down to your experience and boat handling skills. I have personally driven an...

    For the 'anchor group' ?

One thing I have found but is never mentioned is that especially on ground that is settled and firm, and in particular clay, is that it greatly helps if the point of the anchor is really quite sharp. If it is blunt it cannot even begin to dig in. It thus slides along the bottom gathering...

    The Old Forge, Knoydart

Only once I have been able to visit The Forge and all I saw of it was the porch inside the front door which was a relief from the midges. The place was so packed that I had to have my pint relayed from the bar. Maybe better luck the next time.
