So what's the worse thing you have dropped and where did you drop it ?

Favourite home made boat hook (not me - 'er). I dived for it. Vis at 1 foot, zero. Depth around 3 metres. I groped around for it but it was thick ooze and it probably went in point first.

    Boatyard near Swansea?

Barry. They can lift out (trolley on slipway) up to ten tons and 11'8" beam (personal experience). There is shore power and some undercover accommodation. The station is directly above the compound.

Cabin light flicker when water pump runs

Did you check the volts with a digital meter? That woud not repspond rapidly enough to detect a flicker. You need an analogue one for that. A water supply pump is generally an impulse device so the current load woud very with each stroke. A bilge pump is (probably) a continuous load. I...

How should I store my small PVC inflatable tender on board?

On my boat, a Countess 33 bilge keeler, we stowed it rolled up on the foredeck. Very handy to deploy but was forever catching the gyb sheets when tacking. In the Caribbean, on a charter boat, the norm was to hoist it bows upwards against the mast. Again, great for deployment not so good in a...

    Anchoring.

Chart 5608-17 shows a LW maximum depth of 23 metres and that is mid channel. It also shows many drying heights. I accept that it was on a rising tide but they seemed to be on the Welsh side not far downstream from the bridge. I always think, that in a critical situation, I would chuck the...

    Anchoring.

I often wonder why those in difficulties approaching a lea shore do not deploy their anchor. Many times on TV, I see a rescue by lifeboat of boats disabled and drifting shorewards out of control. A recent episode of "Saving Lives At Sea" showed one such incident of a dutch barge drifting with...

Should I base in Bristol Channel?

34 feet will be above the length limit for a few places. Worth checking - narrow down the options.

    Marina Electricity Fees

D Do you really mean that? £25 v 47p. Wandering decimal point? There are two contributions to charges;- daily standing charge and kWhr. My supplier went from 60p to £6 for the standing charge. I switched sharpish.

    CAV filter issue

I find the glass bowl a godsend especially with red diesel. Any water in the fuel is instantly visible. I too have fallen into the trap of leaving the old (top) seal in and wondering why the thing leaked.
