    Plastic Laminate Adhesive

I have a similar project using PVC panels (for the heads) and was going to use Premierbond HT Hybrid Grab Adhesive.

    GPS anxiety

GPS Spoofing/Jamming is not difficult given the 50w transmission power of the average GPS satellite. As was reported a few year back the Iranians even fooled a US drone to land on the wrong airfield. It is something we (sailors) should be aware of and prepare for - as we do for most...

Buying a vat paid boat registered in Guernsey to UK

Hijacking the thread slightly where the VAT status of a boat is unknown (e.g. paperwork lost) what is it calculated on? Original value as new or current value?

    Heads interior finish

Thank you. I had not thought of using floor vinyl. The solution is now toss up between hygiene sheet and vinyl floor.

    Heads interior finish

I’ve had to replace two of the heads bulkheads due to rot. I’m looking for recommendations for impervious and easy to clean surface for the vertical walls in the heads (plus recommendations where to buy ideally in the Solent area). My first thoughts is High Pressure Laminate such as Formica.

    Halmatic 30

Thank you. Agree an engine in a gale is just a means to point higher, I have decided to go with a three blade prop accepting the loss of a few 1/10th of a kt of boat speed to counter the reasons issues you raised above.

    Halmatic 30

You are right the engine bay with a comparably large 1980's engine (VP2002 with flywheel) one of the least accessible of any yacht I've sailed on. I am also putting a new Beta 20 later this month or early next - just finishing the prep off this weekend. I reckoned the old engine needed a...

    Halmatic 30

Hi, I am currently refurbishing a Halmatic 30 MkII and having the same ideas. I am replacing the Engine this month and planing to keep the starter battery (taking up less space) under the cockpit sole and move the house batteries under the berth/seat next to chart table to keep the run short...

    Sadler 29 or Nicholson 32

Strangely I had both of these boats on the top of my list for a similar cruising plan, but I ended up with a Halmatic 30, I am refurbishing it as projected boat so can't yet say if I made the right decision. Bilge keels allows you to explore creeks and access harbours on the Norfolk Coast on a...

    Yacht electrical system design

I advantage for me is because as I am replacing the whole electrical system on the project boat I might as well make it lithium ready (future proof). VSR worked well on a previous rewire of another boat.

    Yacht electrical system design

T Sterling now makes a DC -DC charge that “goes both ways” using excess charging capacity to the house battery to top up the engine battery. Battery to Battery Chargers I’m very tempted to use this on my rewire.

    A long shot but......

Passage weather Sailing Weather - Marine Weather Forecasts for Sailors and Adventurers - PassageWeather on the left sidebar has link to world pilot charts which I believe has the information you require on a large scale. For greater granularity Imray I believe have an Africa Pilot(s) and the...

    Conversion to single line reefing

I have an old Kemp roller boom and asked a similar question at the SBS to All Spar who quoted me circa £500 to covert it to two single line in boom reef (which will retain the tentson in the foot). Which I thought was very reasonable compared to a new Selden boom with single line costing £1600.

    MoB kit

I was shocked with the recent report that stated around 50% of MOB reported to MAIB result in death (there is bias in the figure as most MOBs are not reported to MAIB). My shorthanded MOB plan is below (I've not mentioned MAYDAY etc): Prevent - Keep myself and the crew on board. As well as...
