    scuba on board

Not permanently on board but on some trips especially during the summer. Wet suit, long or short, (I am in the Med), 12l cylinder, BCD, regulator etc. I wish I had a smaller cylinder because a 12lt steel tank is too heavy for an emergency short dive (fouled anchor, propeller etc).

Charging batteries using suitcase generator vs marina shorepower

I have a 60amp charger. When I connect to shore power and the batteries are relatively empty I will see 40-50 amps flowing into the batteries (bulk charging) and then will gradually fall the more the batteries get full. Will charging the batteries via a 2kv suitcase generator instead (using the...

    Corinth canal view.

Nice article. I was lucky to cross the canal 4 times. 3 times during the nigjt (quite scary) and once during daylight (absolutely beautiful).

    Making sense of Greek

In fact it's more common in a tavern to say.... ένα κιλό κόκκινο κρασί παρακαλώ (despite the fact that litre is the correct word!)

    Making sense of Greek

In Greek it’s written only once as φοινικας but if you translate (or “convert”) into English, or latin characters or whatever you want to call it you may see foinikas or finikas or even phinikas etc.

    Air conditioning

Are you planning to have air outlets/ducts only in the saloon area or at cabins too? I have a 16000btu air-condition in my 13 meters boat with outlets in saloon, bow cabin and the two rear cabins. Unfortunately I cannot close the ducts (I know, it doesn't sound smart) unless I block them with...

    NASA BM-1

I had it on my previous boat. Large display so easy to read from a distance. Very good at counting amps in and out so you know your constant consumption and cumulative discharged (just remember to set it to zero!). I never used the percentage factor. Always preferred the cumulative amp figures.

    Teflon tape on diesel firtings

I have also edited my initial post. Probably I should add (if it makes any difference) that I have used a PTFE (USO GAS, DIN EN 753/1) tape. Those used for gas installations which I believe are resistant to hydrocarbons in general.

    Teflon tape on diesel firtings

I have just replaced a cav filter with a racor one and used teflon tape on the threads of the filter fittings. I made sure that it was not a large quantity and not “falling” beyond the end of the threads. Could that cause an issue? Even if something manages to go through the diesel hose wouldn’t...

Two or 3 blade prop for less prop-walk

My previous boat had a shaft. Changed from 2 to 3 blade fixed prop and they both had the same prop effect (which I loved it to be honest; nice to have a stern thruster :)). Current boat has a saildrive and 3 blade fixed prop. You can hardly feel the prop effect.
