Yes, we’ll have about that for all the panels.
nearly 10sqm above the cabin, and about 20sqm on the hardtop and back toward sterns.
Those up high will need to be semi flexible to lower the highup weight, which limits to about 20-21% efficient rather than 22-23% panels.
Hi Irish Rover,
Perhaps a Lagoon 43 may be an option, as noting being too expensive and there are certainly some around the Med.
there aren’t many Maryland 37’s in Europe, but they may be good to look at as well.
the obvious stepup from the Greenland is the Highland 35, and there’s a number for...
The Aquila 44 has quite wide hulls and, if memory serves me, is heavy. Not the best combination for fuel efficiency.
I will try and find the figures again and update my analysis of powercats...
We were looking at the Greenland 34, then found ours - Bluenomads.blog is our pretty quiet blog and has pictures.
I have also done a little study of the fuel consumption of many of the blue-water capable powercats which is on the blog too.
Just so you know, we aren’t just on the Dark Side, we...
Have one :). But ours is aluminium and an expedition boat, not a gin palace.
Because we are narrow for our length, no problems with haulout or marinas (15m long, 4.9m wide).
Don’t know about slow, but I’d say most powercats are faster than their brethren if you compare SD hulls to the usual D...
The general rule is you can lose around 30% of your pumping ability for hoses that aren’t smooth bore, and more for corners or long runs, so if you go spiral then increase your pump accordingly and probably hose size too.
On a cat, if you run on one engine there are some benefits - fuel consumption, maintenance, better load on the Single engine at lower speed. But those benefits can be offset by crabbing or the turning force by the single engine. Having each prop running to slightly turn the bows inward from the...
If we take out of the equation the throttle and connection and tacho, and assume you are in the engine room moving the engine throttle and gearing... how is best to test? Assume we have a handheld tacho that’s accurate, should the gear be in neutral and go WoT? if the engine should be at XX...
You may “want it”, but you almost certainly can’t actually use the extra light - your eyes just cannot. Have a read about how eyes change. Then buy some cheaper binos that will be perfect for you. Sort of like buying 2000hp motors for your 20’ punt. They are expensive and do nothing beneficial...
if you’re and old f@rt, it’s usually cheaper to buy a 32mm or 40mm pair. You cannot use the 50mm amount of light anyway as your eyes simply are not able to after you age (gracefully :) ). if you’re 20, then go fo the 50mm and rejoice.
The two ways of charging seem to be by length (metre) , with multihulls often (but not always) paying extra (say 1.5x) as a flat rate no matter your beam; and the second way is by area (length x beam). We have the advantage of both being a 15m power cat but only 4.9m wide meaning we often fit...
