If you have a crappy looking boat then why bother pulling in the fenders when underway. If, however the boat is the dogs danglies and you are well proud, then you pull the bloody things out of the way. It's all to do with showing off really.

If we did that we would be overtaken by funny speaking canal boating narrowboat owning anoraks from the midlands. I think that the Thames forum is fine as it is.
