I have a 35 foot single engine displacement motor cruiser which in on the hard at Upton upon Severn Marina. It needs to have a new engine and probably a new/rebuilt gearbox fitted.
Does the forum have any recommendations for a diesel engineer in that area who could carry out the replacement...
A friend of mine was sailing back from the Azores to Lagos and was approaching the coast near Sagres this afternoon. Her boat (X-43) was attacked by at least two Orcas for a considerable time. They lost their rudder and were eventually towed in to Sagres. At least one other boat was towed in...
You should not count on making any progress at night. On most French canals the locks do not operate at night (except possibly by prior arrangement for commercial traffic). Certainly navigation at night by small craft is prohibited on the tidal Seine, and possibly elsewhere. In any event it...
It is certainly possible to get to Mons via the inland waterways from the English channel. Once you get there, there is a pleasant marina, with restaurant, in a large basin off the canal to the north of the town.
The issue is that to get there you will need to reduce your air draft to...
Thanks, that is a very useful suggestion. I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow - today is Monday so they are closed.
Yes, Poses is lovely and there are certainly worse places to be stuck for a few days.
Hi
We left Rouen yesterday heading up the Seine towards Paris in our Princess 35. Just after the first lock at Amfreville we hit a submerged tree branch which has jammed one of our props. We managed to moor alongside at the small halte de plaisance at Poses.
We need a Diver to come and clear...
IMO one good place is Rouen, although it is river not canal. About 3 days from Paris. You can either leave your boat afloat in the Port de Plaisance, or ashore at the Lamanage yard nearby. Prices are reasonable and both are very secure. We left our boat there last year and are about to...
Hi Grehan
Thanks for that, I think this is the place:

I will get in touch with them and see if they can help us.
Last summer we moved our motor boat to France; after a couple of months cruising we left the boat ashore in Rouen for the winter.
This summer we are again planning to cruise for a few months in the summer, ending up in or near Strasbourg. Could anyone suggest a good place to leave the boat...
For planning, a good starting point is Fluviacarte No.21, "Voies Navigables de France", which shows all the French navigable waterways and the relevant height/depth restrictions. As a general principle, if you cannot reduce your air draft to 3.5m or less you are likely to have problems.
We live in Lagos (ashore) a few minutes walk from the marina. If it gave you peace of mind I could head over and check her every week or so. PM if interested.
But like everyone says, I'm sure it would be fine anyway.
We went in Mid September and the weather in late May would probably be similar - pleasant and quite warm during the day, but a bit cool in the evenings. We did use the heater on the boat a couple of times. We had one day of light rain, apart from that it was beautiful. Of course, similar...
The Canal du Nivernais is certainly one of the most beautiful in France. We hired there a few years ago and loved it. Several operators hire there including le Boat. We went with a firm called AquaFluvial who were much cheaper. The countryside is stunning and there is little or no commercial...
