Hi everyone,

Trying to find information about two UFO 34 yachts that competed in the infamous 1979 Fastnet race. I understand that six UFO 34's participated

Black Arrow - finished 1st in Class 4
Mahuri - finished 3rd in Class 4
Kamisado - retired
Sandettie - retired
?????? - retired
?????? - retired

Does anyone know the names of the other two yachts?

Thank for the reply Matt. However if "fi fum" competed in the 1979 Fastnet race I would expect that they would be listed in Class IV. Below is a list of all the yachts that competed in Class IV. You can see that Black Arrow, Mahuri, Kamisado & Sandettie are all on the list. The two yachts I am trying to identify are most probably listed below.

Another way of asking is whether anyone can recognise any of the yachts listed below as UFO 34"s?

No, Carronade was a Gary Mull 3/4 tonner, and was the 'prototype' for what became the Oyster 34.

Interestingly, she retired with her keel loose enough to be described as swinging when in the hoist at Plymouth. The first 'keel failure' that I can remember.

Edit - would I be right in half remembering that Peter's previous boat was also a Carronade, and mebbe that one was a UFO?

Is your class assumption right. I know of a High Tension 36 who definitelky sailed in that race and isnt in your list. Near a UFO 34 in size, so maybe the UFOs are in more than one class

Could be, however the other 4 UFO 34's I have identified were in class IV.

Ballydonna, a High Tension 36, was in class III
