OpenCPN - Crowdfunding Swedish Vectorcharts

http://o-charts.org is trying a new approach to expand their portfolios of vector charts for OpenCPN - Crowdfunding.
It's based on an initiative from the Swedish Cruising Association.

The price for the complete set of 580 charts in EUR will be around 59 € depending on VAT in each country. Updates during one year included. Like all other oeSENC charts for OpenCPN, the charts do not disappear from the computer or the disc after the license has expired, just updating ends. Of course a renewed license will bring new updates on the desk.

The crowdfunding action is running until June 15, 2018 longest. We will need at least 150 subscribers to go ahead. With 150 licenses sold, all costs for server and other hardware are not fully covered, but the idea is that once initiated, hopefully there will be a spread in Sweden and the world around so eventually we will be more than the first 150. In case we don't reach our target the subscription will be paid back automatically. No risk.

Right now 130 persons have signed up for the deal, so it's very likely that the project will be successful.

While the price is steeper than the corresponding charts for UK, this is by far, the best deal around for Swedish charts.

The UK charts don't come with updates though. In theory you have to buy annually. So that partially explains the price difference.

That is not correct. The UK chart set is updated quarterly. I bought one in February and just updated to a version released in April.

That's interesting. Give us details.

The normal Admiralty charts from VisitMyHarbour that are generally the cheapest option for the UK with OpenCPN don't come with updates.

You should visit the OpenCPN-> Options → Charts → oeSENC Charts -tab, from time to time to see if a new update is available. Downloads can be started from this tab.
DE, FR and NO chart sets are updated weekly. UK, BE, NL, IS, HR and ES chart sets are updated quarterly.

Make sure that you have the latest version of OpenCPN -> 4.8.4 and oeSENC version 2.0.1.

You can see the same info on o-charts.org once you are registered and have bought some charts.

Those who have participated in the crowdfunding will get a mail with a download link, not later than a few days after June 15th, probably a bit earlier.

The Swedish chart-set will also be listed among other available chart-sets on o-charts.org, for normal purchase, soon(ish).

Update from o-charts.org:

The Swedish oeSENC set will be available from Friday about 10.00 UTC as a normal chart set at o-charts.

During the day the crowdfunders will get their receipt/invoice as a signal that their chart sets are ready and licensed. And can start to request and install.
