Where can I get a specific zip slider that I need. I know what I want - a YKK Vislon size 10. Usual local haberdashers don't have anything that big.

The sliders always seem to corrode away to a pile of white powder after a few years. I can't be the only one who needs replacements.

Don't know whether this would work, but YKK have a website with an online catalogue where you can order samples of various zips. You'd probably have to register in a plausible business name, but you might be able to get what you want cheaply or maybe free. Alternatively, you could just ring them up and ask them for a slider - can't see why they shouldn't send you one and it wouldn't be worth their while raising paperwork for it.

Tanya just replaced our canopy zips from YKK, she built the canopy last year replacing everything but the zips, they went a couple of months ago. YKK do not sell direct to the public, a little like Icom as I just found. I will get the dealers address she used and post it on to you tonight.

We may also have a spare from the old zip, if she did not throw it out, it may just fit yours, I will ask her that also.

Have you tried C & J Marine at Chichester? www.cjmarine.co.uk. I bought some zip sliders from them at the Southampton Boat Show, although not sure what make/type. They are very helpful if you need advice.

Ok, got details, sorry, she threw out old sliders.

The prices of this company are excellent, so anyone needing textiles etc in the future give them a look see.

Re: Zip supplier found

Thanks. These were the only people interested in supplying me some sliders.

Although mainly a trade supplier they will supply retail. They will make up any configuration and length of zip as a one off special order as well. This will be a great service to anyone trying to do a diy sailcover or hood. My jib cover has a 12m zip and I have never before found a supplier for the likes of this. This company supplies special zips to sailmakers as well so they understand marine applications.

The zip expert is on 0161 832 3262.
