Late AGAIN.

Anyone thinking of subscribing to any of the mags in Zinio - I recommend you don't, the service is hopeless and the mags are almost always late.

I guess the staff were all off playing on boats in readyness for the RTIR rather than releasing the mag.

We're currenly in the process of a big office move/redesign. It shouldn't have effected someone signing off the Zinio version of YM, but it might have done.

Obviously it's a Saturday night now, so I can only apologise on behalf of YM and her crew until we can find out what happened.

Sorry

So what?

I really do not mind if I have to wait a day of three more. Don't look in the shops and you will never know.

It arrives when it arrives. The convenience of Zinio far outweighs the wait.

Having said that, why is Yachting World not on Zinio. I get my digital version via the Newsstand. Are IPC heading their bets?

All titles are on Zinio and most are on news stand and the rest will flow in the next few months.

Don't know why YM is not up on Zinio yet should be up on day of publication ?

There ya go that's two replies tonight !

To add I will check first thing on Monday morn as soon as I have found my new desk ...

I have a paper sub for YW. How come then I was offered a free Newsstand sub and not Zinio?

I knew I should have kept quiet !

Let's keep it simple ... Because of our parent company Time Inc you are now able to have an iPad only version of your pint sub via Apple newsstand FOC.

All of our mags will be available via the newsstand globally before the end of the year this is iPad only if you choose to purchase digital only.

All issue are still available via Zinio at the normal sub rate across all platforms.

With Zinio you have to go through the Zinio app with the newstandand / app store you simply search for the magazine title.

Please don ask any more on a sat night as we are going I to the deep and dark world of apple / publishers ! But if you want any further info email me on mon.

Richard_shead@ipcmedia.com

Now where is my red ...

Cheers

Thanks to both of you for the replies. While I realise that an office move can be disruptive, the paper mag presumably went out on time? I get the feeling that the digital edition has not been properly integrated into your (IPC, not YM specifically) processes. Surely all it would take is to make this the very next thing done when the mag goes off to the printer, just send it to Zinio?
Between YM and PBO I've had a problem every month since I subscribed without exception. Every month I mention it and the digital edition is released and then forgotten about. If it's too much trouble to take it seriously then please just say so and I'll go back to the print edition after getting a refund!
Cheers
Dave

Well I do mind if I have to wait longer for the version that doesn't have to be printed, packed and then carried accross the country to me. The whole point of digital is that it's quicker and easier.
Not looking in the shops is ridiculous - there is a publication date and that should be the latest date the magazine comes out - I'm not aware of the paper one having been late in the 4 years since I started buying it.

As for the convenience far outweighing the wait, I don't see how it's convenient if it's not on time. You wouldn't be happy if Tesco deliver your shopping a week late just because you didn't have to go to the shops!

Not true. If the food doesn't arrive and I go hungry that is bad. If a magazine doesn't arrive I really do not care. I just read it when it does.

I wasn't actually aware that the Zinio version was late. When it arrives I get a message on my iPad and I read it. I really do not care if someone else got their printed one a day or two earlier.

But then, you also have the paper sub as you said above so while you wait for the digital edition you can read the paper one!

Hi Dave,
Clearly there has been a problem this month. The way it works is that the mag is sent down to the printers via PDF, these are then sent to Zinio at more or less the same time. Zinio then convert those PDFs and enable all the links in the editorial and ads, we then get a link to proof the Zinio edition, any mistakes we find has to go back to Zinio to be corrected.

Somewhere this process has gone wrong and hopefully it will be sorted on Monday.

Sorry again for the delay

Thanks for the info :) I'd always imagined you would use something a bit more exciting than a PDF!

No, PDF is these days the standard format for sending data to printers. However, I cannot believe that enabling links in ads is an onerous task; most PDF generators could do it for you, and I'd have thought it was easier to do in the layout phase than at a third party. PDF supports embedded URLs, so it isn't a big deal at the layout phase, and that would seem to remove the need to proof read the processed version.

I've been sending material to printers for a very long time, and formats have changed over the years; originally we sent PostScript separations, but PDF (generated according to the correct protocols with colour separations) is much more convenient.

Still no digital edition!!!!

So despite the quick responses on the forum from the YM team we still have no digital edition!

One of the key attractions of moving my subscription to a digital edition was that it would be quick... this is the third edition that has been late since I started my subscription.

Zinio has a terrible user interface, I would seriously suggest that the YM team look to moving towards News Stand ASAP. The world is moving to trying to be as paperless as possible for many reasons, please can you keep up!!

They are already in newsstand the problem is there is no way to move your subscription. From a previous post by Snooks the zinio one is more flexible and a better interface than newsstand though.

Well he would say that wouldnt he.:D

YM are in Newsstand? Thats news to me. Where?

I use both and I prefer Newsstand.

Just looked and couldn't find it, maybe I was wrong :) of course it could be waiting approval...

I thought I explained the whole newstand tings in my earlier thread?

We will all be on there by the end of the year, YM will be on there in 6 weeks.

YW is already on there.

looking at the Zinio issue now.
