Zinc or Aluminium anodes for Bravo III drives?

More informed members will understand the technicalities better than i but my understanding is;
Aluminium - Brackish Water
Zinc - Salt Water
Magnesium - Fresh Water

Have you had zincs on her before? if so, what's their appearance? If they're encrusted with a crumbly white oxide deposit, it probably means the water's too brackish for them to work -- and unless cleaned up they'll still be ineffective even if returned to full salt water. In that case, aluminium would be indicated since it works in both brackish and seawater. But if the zincs have been working, there's probably no reason to change.
The MG Duff site (www.mgduff.com/leisure-craft/cathodic-protection.html) gives chapter and verse.

1. Merc only make aluminium ones for the BIII
2. The price of a kit has actually fallen significantly last year
3. Some muppet mechanic thought he was doing me a favour andinstalled key part copies on my BIII 4 years ago and it melted in 6 weeks (anodes however were imaculate). This is not meant as any critism of MG Duff - they are acknowleded experts.

Co incidentially I picked up a kit today as I poped into Boaters world ..........$54! If only. Sod's law they only had the one kit too.
