Anyone know where I can get an oil cooler for ZF10M box. Tried ASAP. They suggested Bowman but I know that wont do the job.
Well, someone has to ask, why do you want one? ZF say it isn't needed in A gear and only in B gear if you are putting more than 34HP through it.
Have you got the ZF repair manual? There is a drawing in it (page 27) of the cooling attachment together with all part numbers (kit is pt no ), and sundry references to it in text. Might help you.
I can email you the manual if you PM me an email address. Ah, found it, you can download from

Detail of the cooler here too http://dbmoteurs.fr/sites/default/files/ZF-12-310_01_0089-ZF-DBMOTEURS-DB-MOTEURS.pdf
Might be worth talking to Lancing Marine http://www.lancingmarine.com/

When I changed my Hurth box for the ZF10 box I spoke to ZF for some time about reliability, they said changing the gearbox oil every 100 hrs will make a big difference, time will tell !

I once spoke to one of the hurth zf main agents about these plate actuated mechanical gearboxes.
He stated quite clearly that the issue was usually overloading the gearbox by fitting it to engines close to the gearboxes maximum HP rating.
This combined with sloppy alignment with prop shaft lead to a run out output bearing plus failure of the output shaft oil seal as a result of the wear.
I bought a u/s unit of this company and stripped and reconned it myself.A very clever and simple gearbox where the clutch plates by attempting to lock the shaft causes the torque generated in the gearbox to lock the gear train in forward or reverse.
So you probably should have nothing bigger than about 40 HP attached to this gearbox which at about £550 brand new isn't such a bad deal.
Many US marine engineers fit a purpose made oil cooler to the box to prolong its life. The link you give for details of the cooler refers to the ZF12. Thanks for your reply.
