ZF 220A transmission

Does the ZF Marine site not have what you need?

I'd be suprised if Tony doesn't help you (if that is your question on the marine diesel forums). May need to give him more than 30minutes though...

There are really only a few reasons why your box wont engage.

1. no oil (use SAE 30 )
2. cable selector not moving far enough (remove cable from selector and manually move. Selector should sit on the 3 de-tents!
3. broken fauly cable or control head ? (if cable) of faulty electronics (if solonoid)
They were the simple things !

I compared the distance with the other engine of the cable lever on the control head and is identical. But I can see no electronics nor wires attached to the gearbox. Which solenoid are you referring to.?

Today I had an oil change hoping to solve the problem but the rattling noise is still there and gearbox won't engage.
When I turn the lever with my hand to engage manually, nothing happens. I can't figure out what is the problem.

The fault was a stucked Valve at the end of the distributor pin.
So no oil was being delivered to the pump and gears were not engaging. No parts were required, just a good clean to the distributor mechanism and new oil SAE 30. The cause might have been incorrect oil viscosity or lack of oil change.

Mine would periodically not go into reverse. The selector moved far enough, it had oil and there was no faulty cable or control head. The fail was periodic and usually after extensive dawdling. The problem turned out to be a very small pencil eraser sized blob of lock-tite that got into the case at manufacture and was getting periodically sucked into the valve.
