Zeise marine generator

Just bought this one from a forumite, happy to rebuild it but before l do does anyone know what the white box is on the side of the unit that seems to be where the air intake should be? The engine is the Farymann unit and everything else seems obvious.

Photos not very clear, but if the box really is covering the air inlet then its possibly an emergency stop for the engine.
Or, cold start air inlet heater? Just have to take the cover off!

i think it's were the excitation components are!

It looks very similar to the physical layout of a Paguro 3000 compact. In that unit there are a few electrical components inside the box over the air intake, presumably for cooling. Just looked at a wiring diagram I have; theres a charger module, start relay, a ballast resistor and current coil - think thats it.

It's the box where all the wires are connected to the capacitors, I think what they are called. In a remote grey box.
It also looks like the 'black box' is missing from the top and the water pump.

We had the same model

white box contains the wiring connector strip, and you connect the remote excitation capacitors, and the out put connection.

There should be a rectifier block to charge the starter battery mounted below.

where is the seawater pump, as ours was mounted on those slots nearby. Exhaust is upside down, but you probably knew that.

Lastly I have a few spares left over including the stop solenoid & rectifier which we carried as it was a mission critical bits , if you want to make an offer.

I have the manuals for the similar Paguro, Westerbeke and Mastervolt models as well as the overhaul manual for the Farymann engine. Fischer Panda also offer a similar unit - actually made by Paguro VTE of Italy.

The white box is affixed to the engine inlet by 2 allen head bolts, with a tube drawing the inlet air over the genny alternator.

Thanks, ours is mounted on the front where the starter handle would have gone, no belt just direct drive.
