Youtube: Alcohol at sea - yes or no?

Why should it be a binary choice? There are times & places when alcohol is appropriate & others when it isn't. It's all about commonsense, innit?

Some 'ave it & some don't.
Uuh - I wasn't trying to start a real discussion. Perhaps I should have put it in the lounge? (Except I'm trying to avoid that place at the moment...)

Swigging Pinky vodka from the bottle 8 seconds in. For anyone who wants to see whether it has the same effect on their boat it's far cheaper at Asda than anywhere else.

just a normal day out on a mobo :)
Is that why I feel drawn to the dark side from time to time? (So long as someone else is paying the fuel bill!)

The trouble is that most of the time that I spend on a power boat nowadays is when I am conducting YM exams and for some reason the candidates don't usually offer me alcoholic refreshment.

Is there any facts to back that up?? I've been doing it or a while!

We do it all the time, we carry tap water, or milk for a flask of coffee, in small disposable plastic bottles. We reuse them several times & simply wash them out & rinse before use. Not died yet, or even been ill for years.

We also carry an old pop bottle of tap water for the dog, or rinsing hands if needed - have even used it for topping up screenwashers & coolant & as a hotwater bottle. I wouldn't have any qualms drinking the water either if I was thirsty & there was no cleaner source. I don't think I would drink from puddles like the dog does tho, even tho she is as fit as a fiddle.

I guess I am just lucky. :D

Well it would seem rude not to fill a fitted drinks cabinet, may as well not be there if not used! Moderation in everything - including sobriety.

Perhaps this a reason for allowing alcohol or should I continue to run a mainly dry boat whilst at sea?

PS Why isn't the weather like that here?

From morning until the mooring / pontoon is picked up for the night it should be a dry boat IMO. Had one amusing but potentially dangerous misjudgement early in my sailing career from no more than 2 pints at lunchtime, and I've never had a drink underway since then. Nor has anyone else on my boat.

The main issue is filling from an office style water cooler (the ones with the big water bottle on top). You drink from your bottle then fill it, transfering germs to the tap on the cooler which then multiply and make other people ill. When you get these coolers the instructions explain all this, as well as why you should dispose of the disposable cups each time rather than refil.
Filling your own bottle won't harm you if you wash it out regularly, otherwise Camelbak would be out of business! Ideally, if you touch a bottle you've drunk directly from to the tap then clean the tap too.

Long story short, normal people won't die. Those that do were either already weak (for instance due to some kind of disease or treatment) or their parents were way too clean in the home growing up.

Humm your watching videos of young girls nothing wrong with that, just like there is nothing wrong with drinking on board.
Thank you for your vote of confidence. Just to explain that I don't spend all day searching for videos of drunken girls on You Tube; I noticed it listed in the side bar of videos when I was watching a video clip of self steering gear.

I'd better stop there or someone will think I am protesting too much.
