Sorry, this thread is just an excuse for me to share with you my new-found luxury snack, but I'd be interested in your faves too. Very important to accompany those sun-downers we'll be imbibing over the coming months /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We normally buy dried figs from the market. By dried I mean recently dried, so they're still very moist. Anyway, went to our fave market stall the other day and the bloke broke open a fig, stuffed a walnut inside and offered it to us to sample. Now I'm not a great fan of walnuts but this is one of the greatest food combos I've ever tried! I am now addicted and it has become my evening 'sweet'. Try it!

The other one I really like is strained yoghurt (called 'süzme' in Turkey) with sweet chili sauce poured over the top. Great for dipping crisps or even sugar-snaps, which are in at the moment. Sweet chili sauce isn't as freely available as the other ingredients so I normally buy a few jars at a time when I come across it.

Anyone got any other easy-to-source snacks?

I did a delivery back in October from Majorca to Portugal. We'd bought some brie, and had managed to find some Hula Hoops too.

One evening, we were sitting in the cockpit in Vilamoura marina and one of the other crew members started cutting the brie into strips and pushed the Hula Hoops down into the strips, like cutting biscuits with a biscuit cutter.

So we had brie-filled Hula Hoops.

They were gorgeous, but incredibly rich.

I topped mine off with a black olive for extra flavour.

I always take chunky peanut butter and Australian honey. Then find I don't have much appetite in the heat and go native with peppers and nuts and yoghurt.

Fun size Mars bars, surely . . . /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Forget the fun size - go for the King size and a bowl of fresh whipped cream (or the aerosol type if can't be bother whipping some cream).
Doesn't do the waist line much good but mmmmm.

Failing that fresh Haggis to compliment the fine malt. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Finally ginger snaps and - guess what? - fresh whipped cream and strawberry topping with some ground ginger and cinnimon. Bugger this - I am away to raid the fridge...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I love the fact you jocks have no fear of cholesterol and obesity whatsoever.

I have lost my taste for sweet stuff, handy, but I miss chocolate. Sadly now the idea of it far outweighs the sickly taste when I succumb and think it will be ok this time.

I can eat it now only as a small part of a biscuit or similar, mars bars make me want to throw-up.

[/ QUOTE ]That wa why I included the ginger snap "recipe" - the ginger helps prevent the "mal de mare" so one does not up-chuck so often. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for cholesterol, what is that? Don't recall seeing that on any list of contents.

Obesity? plenty of sexercise takes care of that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't disrespect beans on toast. Indeed it is a wonderful dish, but I'd suggest that's more of a wholesome meal than a snack to have with a sundowner /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Philadelphia cheese block covered with sweet chilly sauce, and ritz crackers.
Quick easy and tastes great.
Or blended chick pea's and curry, served with your fav nibble crackers or Tosteto's corn chips.

Man after my own heart. And a nice mug of strong Tea. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Better than sex!

Toasted crusty bread with olive oil drizzled over it then rubbed with tomato or if in a sweet tooth mood marmalade and thick clotted cream.

Oh, thatsounds lovely! But first thing in the morning, in a cold East Scottish harbour, you can't beat dry cured bacon on buttered (proper butter) wholemeals rolls and a strong cup of coffee. Demonboy, you had us going with that April Fool. We've been dreaming about moving to Turkey for a while now and following your blog relentlessly.

Tesco's (and I have surveyed others, and theirs is the best - trust me on this one !) mackerel in tomato sauce, heavily sprinkled with black pepper to the extent that you cant see the mackerel anymore. Straight from the tin.

I tried it reently with chilled white ........... there is no serious competition ...... unless we are talking marmite on toast of course /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Popcorn dusted with salt and chilli powder and maybe a touch of English mustard powder.

Lift the pan lid whilst cooking to appreciate the firepower of an infantry square had on the French cavalry.
