This is mine , had loads but this one just keep coming back to my pocket , finally worked out what the hook thingy is for ! Small sharp blade , large sharp blade . Bottle opener. Cork screw . Can opener . Large and small screwdriver . Drilly thing I forget the name of ...awl maybe. And the all important scissors just right for trimming fishing lines and nose hairs. Must be 50 years old...

I could not get them all to stay open, there is a sewing thing in there for putting a stitch in a body's nose to check if they are still alive before a sea burial :)

Ah but did you put a pin in the pin holder? Did you know it had a pin holder (not certain this was always there)

Hook is to use as a carry handle

Same knife I think but I swapped the useless toothpick for a fire starter (firefly) and added some wax covered tinder (fireant) instead of the tiny screwdriver on the corkscrew.

I have one that is rubbish and should have been thrown out years ago . The other is quality but has a locking blade so questionable legality.

I too love my Opinals as blades can't be beat but the Swiss still comes home...hooky thing...what for ?

Whitby Pocket Knife. Cost just over a tenner. I didn't carry a knife until early this year and never saw the benefit. Now I carry it (only when sailing) I use it all the time. Marlin Spike a lot, knife slightly less and shackle key half a dozen times. Flat screwdriver once.

Other photo is the also rans: I inherited a Victorinox Standard, never used in anger, Gerber Suspension (lived on the boat for 10 years, never used) and the little Guiness Knife I inherited from my Grandfather which lives hanging near the garage door and has a large amount of use by virtue of being to hand.

Finally the Mora Basic knife. Kept on the boat for 10 years, used exclusively to gut mackerel (and not many of them 😭). Taken camping a few times and used around the camp fire. Solvol Autosol didn't touch the staining.

Gerber is illegal without reason due to locking blade, apparently you can take the lock off but I can't be bothered. Mora also illegal without reason. Too long and doesn't fold.

But the Witby has been a revelation. I've no idea how I've gone from decades of never needing to carry a marlin spike etc and never missing it to using it all the time from the day I bought it. What was I doing before? 🤷‍♂️

So to continue the thread. I've carried a knife since I got my hand stuck in a drive belt on a machine on a golf course when I was a twatty 17 tean year old idiot. 3 month recovery.

Had a pen knife since I was 4 years old (and I was strictly told what I could use it for and when I could use it).

Tiny thing, but beautiful, possibly mother of pear handle.

Since then, so many different types of knives; like boats - many are a compromise.

Always had a Swiss Army knife. Currys bosun is good. Fixed blades are good for other things.

Had to choose? Swiss a Army Knife.

Almost but not quite a pen knife, the knife below I found very useful, both on the boat and for carrying ashore.

The replaceable blades mean I don’t mind using it for tasks that may damage the edge and ensure it is always super sharp without any effort.

Presumably you can fit non-serrated blades into that?

Smaller and lighter than a Stanley knife and has an attachment area for lanyard.

Has belt clip too; excellent.

If the blade locks, illegal to carry without reason of course, but does not lock as far as I can see from photo; so have a sharp knife to hand at all times👍

No need to sharpen blade as with a Swiss Army knife (quite a skill ) because you can change the blade easily and cheaply.

I have the smallest Opinel available somewhere. Sharp as a scalpel (they are SO easy to sharpen or hone). Used to keep on my key ring but the blade would open accidentally in my pocket sometimes - not good.

Yes, it will take (almost) any Stanley (box cutter) blade. If you buy them in packs of 50 or 100 they are not expensive, so I swap them frequently. The blade does lock.

The knife itself is milled from titanium, so it is quite light and corrosion-resistant (the blades rust quickly, but these are replaced). Unlike most similar Stanley knives, the blade is quite rigid when unfolded.

I purchased one for myself, but my wife kept pinching it, so I had to buy a second one :).

Has been an Opinel with a slightly charred handle for many years, BUT last trip I forgot to pack it and airport security got it.

I told the guy it was a GOOD KNIFE and he should keep it rather than chucking it in the bin, but just got the predictable official stare.

Sad.

It is difficult to beat those blades for sharpness (when they are new). Cut through carpet etc.

Titanium! Even better. How much was it? If not too impolite? No need to answer if impolite. Yours has a ‘sort of’ rapid opening thumb tab too. Impressive.

I was very lucky to have been given a similar knife BUT with rose wood ‘handles’ / side grips and matching pliers (which I have misplaced).

The belt grip saves me misplacing the ‘Stanley knife’ (however, I think mine locks, so I must not carry it- shame, it is very useful; sharp, compact, light (not as light as yours).

The basic model is $80 USD. The skeleton edition (pictured) is $135.

This includes spare parts such as an extra set of screws and bolts and a replacement lock bar. There are a number of options such as SKIFF bearings, different handle finishes (such as carbon fibre) etc.

The blade does lock.
