you know you\'re in trouble when.....

You see something like this....
forweb.jpg

That was Louise a few weeks back, the first time we saw that boat. The plan was to have a look and see if we liked 'that type of boat'.

We completed on it earlier this evening. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, now I'll have somewhere to put me burgee when I get it!

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

I suspected this may happen . Congratulations /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Yep, thought about it, took all the good advice, decided that the best thing to do was to wait and try and see a few different types, then bought the first one we saw......

Both chuffed to bits!

Oh, the name. We've decided on Ishtar. In 2000 we spent a fortnight on a sailing diving boat in Sudan, a wooden square rigged ship called Ishtar, and we loved it. It's also the goddess of love, and a few other things....

Cobra 850. Fin keel. 10HP Bukh.

Cheers!

Same here! I went to see lots, all over the SW and Wales, visited one in Milf Haven twice, but came back to the one I first saw a mile from home in Bristol Harbour. Not regretted my decision for even a second /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

See you on the water /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Cheers. Bit of work to do, and very busy as well, so first week of June looks good. Then I have to convince myself I can handle her on the long and difficult passage from Cardiff Bay yacht club to Cardiff yacht club. I've heard there's pirates about, as well as foul tides......

"I've heard there's pirates about, as well as foul tides...... "

Surely you mean "there's tides about, and foul pirates"? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(And make sure you go through the moorings at CBYC for the first time, under sail - the owners are quite happy for someone to do that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

((Not! Sorry Graham /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ))

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Congrats on the new boat, looks fine, hope you have fun. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Congrats and welcome to the club, drat another boat to beat me in the sunday morning race,

Chris.

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Thanks everyone. I went out the conservatory last night at midnight after hearing a strange noise only to find Louise and Tigger (our black dog) sitting in the inflatable tender. She'd brought it home to check it.

We are both 'over the moon' but very much aware of how much we have to learn. It will be a while before we nervously hoist the sails for the first time, and some time beyond that before we venture out into the channel, I think, so racing maybe a while away yet.

But I'm really looking forward to the learning process.

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Yep. We spent the evening on her last night and even had our first cup of tea. I had to put a bit of epoxy filler on the rudder as identified by the survey. Quite frankly, it was a bit of a joke, the 'damage' was extremely superficial. Ho hum.

Best bit was going through all the lockers and finding tons and tons of boy things. Shackles, tools, spares, rope, nuts and bolts. Louise wasn't that impressed and kept talking about curtains, so I put her to scraping the old antifouling off. That seemed to quieten her down. At least, I couldn't hear her from inside the boat drinking my tea.......

She's down there all day today. If you see a blonde covered in old antifoul scraping the hull in CBYC, go and say hello.

Funny thing is, I'd rather be doing that than sat here working on a computer all day.

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

I thought I'd seen your boat in the compound, we've been there for a few weeks now. Fingers crossed ours will come back from Westpoint today with its new fuel pump fitted and we can launch tomorrow /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Enjoy the antifouling, I slapped a load on ours for the first time last week and it's 'orrible stuff....

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

I'm not expecting to be able to have any problems with it to be honest, since Louise is doing it whilst I'm in Bridgend......

Yes, the boat was hauled out for survey last week and is on a cradle now. It's called Peptimus /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif although that may have been scraped off by now. Hopefully, Andy is doing us some new letters.

If you see us, come and say hello, I'm 6'1" bald, Louise is 5'5" Blonde and covered in antifoul.

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Will do.

I'll be the one with a green & white Regal on a trailer, attached to a silvery gold Range Rover. I'll take it down to Morrisons first to fill the fuel tank then launch later in the afternoon after we've finished cleaning the inside. We'll be pottering in the yard for a while I expect.

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Had the guided tour this morning .Peptimus is great.I like the layout in the saloon ,loads of room. I hope your not tiring yourself out on the computer work while Louise is just lazing around scraping antifoul etc /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

Cheers, Graham. Problem is, I'm doing precisely that. I'd far rather be lying under a boat than working here, and I've been burning the midnight oil of late.

One of the attractions of boats - no phones. No email. Nobody knocking the door trying to sell you things.

I remember, many years back reading about someone who had invented a personal stereo for scuba divers.

'Now there's someone missing the point', I thought.....

I know what you mean.I like listening to music but one of the great pleasures of sailing for me is slipping along quietly. Also i dont understand why so many use the engine when they could sail.

I know sometimes its worth it if you have a set time for a lock opening or the tide is going to change against you.

Re: you know you\'re in trouble when.....

We were sitting on the moorings in Ramsey last Saturday, having a bite, all of the trip boats were out around the island and it was lovely, listening to the gulls, watching a young Gannet dive pracising and listening to the roar of the tide over horse rock.

I can just hear the hiss as the pressure that has built up all week slowly leaks out of me.

Louise said you'd been to see the boat. She said you had a good look, with particular attention to the galley cabinets. She'd put the food in the boot of the car though.......

Right, we're off down West shortly. Have a good weekend, all.
