Hello everyone, after several problems with the YM20 switch, I would like to add an audible signal when the key activates the starter. Hold to the right. Can you tell me which connectors to use on the attached photo? Thank you for your help

I don't understand why you want an audible signal to basically let you know you've turned the key. I can't see the point, surely you can hear the engine turning? Or have I missed something?

To answer the question, connect the alarm to the wire that goes to the starter solenoid. Easy to find with a test lamp or meter.

I have disconnected the starter feed on my YM engine and fitted a separate pushbutton. This was on the suggestion of a Yanmar dealer engineer, after changing more than one starter motor AND Yanmar keyswitch after burnt out motors from non-disengaged starters. Interesting that new Yanmars have pushbuttons not keyswitches. It appears these keyswitches can fail to turn off starter power.

Interesting because I am having similar with my Volvo Penta ... but the key turns to off position - starter is still engaged ...

Starter could stick on under two conditions: switch welded itself in the on position or starter solenoid jammed/welded itself into the on position

Best place to put a buzzer would be on the starter connections then you would catch either condition

Solenoids usually either rust and stick or get bad internal connections with high resistance and then overheat and jam or the contacts weld themselves together

As above pushbuttons tend to be better as they handle higher current due to usually a larger contact area

IF you look at the wiring diagram in your Yanmar owners manual you will be able to see that terminal 17 is the one.
to do what you asked.

The wiring diagram will also show you where to connect at the starter relay or the solenoid if you decide one of these is the more sensible place. (White wires in all locations)
